The Point Hostels - Mancora Beach
Ranked #14 of 68 Specialty Lodging in Mancora
Reviewed June 19, 2014 via mobile

I am currently staying at point. Its a really cool hostel. We are staying in a big group (we all got in one room which was cool) in the early week. I think it might get pretty busy on the weekends but its pretty chilled out. The pool was cleaned the other day to a sparkling shhen which was awesome.
Its a little out of town so there arent any restaurants walkibg distance. A moto taxi is only 3 sols or you can eat the food from the signora in the kitchen. Top lady.
Staff are really nice and laid back, world cup always on and with happy hours on during the game.
Good cocktais, comfy beds and i think hitting a good middle between loki and the quieter hostels. Also close to the beach.
Really nice place. X

This hostel is all right. Some of the pros include
+price-good price for dorms and privates, considering the location and the amenities provided.
+beds-comfortable, slightly small for singles, but good pillows and mattresses for the most part.
+pool- they keep it quite clean and it's in sun all day so it is a nice temperature.
+good happy hours- at several different times during the day they have excellent 2for 1 happy hour prices.
+kitchen staff. The kitchen staff are polite, helpful, and great prices for good portions and good quality meals. But no kitchen to cook your own food in.

Unfortunately this hostel absolutely loses it when it comes to the managers. We wanted to volunteer for a couple weeks, figuring it would be a nice place to reset, to get some beach time in, relax, and serve some drinks. The point manager was an arrogant jerk, attempted to steal money from the bar while we were working, and when I confronted him about it he attempted to pass it off with a smirk and basically told me to pay more attention, which is ridiculous. The bar manager was relatively nice, but she had a little clique of friends, so the instant any of them appeared on the scene, she dropped any conversation 100%, froze you out, and ignored you completely. This happened every single time and she often changed into speaking French. Then she has the temerity to accuse us of not being social enough. I have worked in several bars, during university and while travelling, and not once has that label ever been assigned to me. Some of the workers were very nice, but the clique of snobs quite ruined this hostel experience for us. So as a place to stay, it's ok, but don't expect to be treated like family, rather like paying cattle.

Room Tip: Dorms in the main building, not the Add-on, are much quieter

Right on the beach and it's not a 20 minute walk to town...it's 5 minutes walk along the beach. Yes, you get warned of the dangers but that's just mancora in general. Thursday nights at The Point are party nights and it's a great vibe. It's real easy to get work, free accommodation and a large discount on food. The food.... huge portions for great prices! I highly recommend staying here :)

All around good hostel. Cheap and accommodating. They do have free breakfast and cheap meals that are enormous. Some of the staff seemed a little clueless when we were there, I think that they were just passing through as well. It's about a ten to fifteen minute walk into the town center. Overall, pretty quiet hostel at night which was good compared to the reviews I've seen for the hostels closer to the center. The Point is located right on the beach as well, making it very convenient for swimming or surfing - there is also a pool at the hostel if you're into that. Reasonably clean as well.

The point is right on the edge of town which means a 20 min walk along the beach or a 5 min motortaxis ride to reach the shops and restaurants but that's no big problem as you never need to leave- they have a great restaurant and bar on site, plus a big pool and lots of hammocks so you can laze around all day. The 6 bed female dorm was super spacey (apparently larger ones are cramped) and enough bathroom facilities though the water went out every so often. Happy hours were great value, as was the food, and the music was always great. On Saturdays there is a beach club across the lane that plays electro music til about 9am- fine for us as we were there to party but worth bearing in mind if you're not! The pool was also kind of dirty and the sewer nearby smelt so rancid, though that came and went. Staff were friendly enough- we arrived off a nightbus super early and they let us sleep in hammocks til check in which was fab. Good BBQ on a Sunday and free breakfast is simple but sufficient. Solid choice for mancora!

his is my honest opinion of the place.
location: 20 min walk from the bus station. But will NOT recommend walking as it leads into the slumps of dangerous people. Unless you have a death wish and love to have your stuff stolen. MotoTaxi is the way to travel there...
customer service: very helpful
cleanness: place was clean and tidy.
bathrooms: Only 6 showers and 6 toilets to choose from
Bedroom: Dorm had no windows so it was cold and windy while I was there. Lots of mosquitos. Small lockers for personal items. You need to store your stuff under the bed.
extras: Had no working computer as well as WIFI was fast and available next to the toilet.
No Kitchen because it had own restaurant.
Noisy: Music playing to early hours in the morning. Like a party hostel.
Breakout area: Outdoor, near pool or indoor.
Had volley ball court, pool, pool table and table tennis for entertainment.
Suggestions: lockers for big bags and fix the computer.

Room Tip: the dorm is decent size

I loved this hostel. It had nice clean dorms, a great pool and bar area which was very sociable which was great as I was traveling alone. There are loads to do in hostel as they arrange a number of activities day and night from volleyball, pool tournaments, salsa lessons and loads more.
The staff are great! Really helpful and join in with Everyone. The food there also really good and cheap. They do a dinner meal of the day every nigh with is 15 soles including a large beer or 12 without. The food was excellent and everybody sits down together to eat which is really nice.

Overall I have a great time here and would love to have stayed longer.
