“Great Place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2014

I was very pleased with my experience here. I stayed with my husband and eight year old son and they both loved it. The staff was so friendly and helpful with all the activities we had questions about. The fresh hot cooked breakfast was really incredible too. With the view of the ocean just across the street from our room and the 2nd floor patio where you can hang out, it was all truly amazing. I can't wait to go back soon. :)

It is a very impressive location with a heavy surf just across the street from the inn. The design of the facility shows a lot of experience in the hotel business. Housekeeping was flawless. The staff was friendly and eager to help with any need. With a "Blue Flag" beach just a short walk to the north, the surf directly east, and several eateries immediately south, this is a great location.
Add to that the National Forest/Park El Yunco with rain forest, waterfalls, and a great view of the coast and we think we got a great sample of the island's beauty all in one place. This was our first visit to Puerto Rico and we loved it! It was a bit difficult to find because of the little colonia
between the Inn and the highway; the streets are narrow but passable. There are iguanas in some of the trees nearby, as well as the little chirping frogs.

You won't need to go out for breakfast as they serve a special hot breakfast daily as well as the usual fruit, juices, coffee, milk, cereals, and sweets.

Also the public beach with "the famous kiosks" is within walking distance.

Room Tip: All the rooms face the surf with balconies and chairs except two on the ground floor.

First, the negatives. I agree with another reviewer who said that she had wondered what she had gotten herself into when they drove through the neighborhood to the hotel. There are abandoned buildings and some graffiti - which doesn't give one a good feeling. Of all the places we'd been to in Puerto Rico, this is the town in which we felt least secure although we encountered no problems. We ended up driving to restaurants instead of walking into town because we would have walked back in the dark. My first impression of the facility was not a positive one. Perhaps because of its proximity to the ocean, the building looks older than its seven years. We were to have one room for the first night and another for the next two nights. The first room that we had had a very stale smell - not sure if part of the smell was from smoking or not. I knew that they did not have any other rooms so the best I could do was to tell the staff about it the next day. The woman that I spoke with was very courteous and very concerned - she discussed the kind of cleanings that they do to the rooms and was disconcerted to hear that there was a smell. The next room that we had was smell free.
Now the positives. The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. They were genuinely nice and very natural people. The folks in the office were helpful, the women who cleaned the rooms were lovely, and the women who made breakfast were delightful. We probably have never encountered such a nice staff in all our travels. The breakfast was good - the hot entree of the day was always tasty. The location was great - close to the rainforest and close to the restaurants at the kiosks. While the beach in front of the hotel is very rough, there is a nice, calm public beach a very short drive away and what is billed as the most beautiful beach in Puerto Rico - a public beach for which you pay $5 parking. This beach, with very calm waters, is just east of the kiosks. It has a changing area, showers, and bathrooms.
The rainforest, El Yunque is one of the most amazing places we've ever hiked. Whether you are a seasoned walker or not - there are trails that you can manage - you'll be rewarded with amazing beauty and calm. We hiked to the top of the mountain and took the very short but rocky Juan Diego trail to see beautiful water falls and then the concrete El Mina trail to a spectacular waterfall. Bring a hooded rain jacket just in case.
Next, the kiosks - a great place to eat. We had Puerto Rican food in two or three of the restaurants there - nice service and great food at a reasonable price.
Loquillo is also a great jumping off point for the ferries from the adjacent town, Fajardo. Beware that the ferries are sometimes unreliable and sometimes provide a very bumpy ride. You can fly for anywhere from $65 to $110 which might be worth it depending on your time.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the ocean have spectacular views. There is a small house in the back of the hotel...

My husband and I stayed here for 6 nights; the first 4 were in a room on the far end of the second floor (with a great view of the sunrise) and the last 2 were in a king suite. Opt for the king suite if you can; the balcony is a bit bigger and the room has wi-fi, a microwave and fridge. The entire staff was terrific. Breakfast was the usual (cereal, bagels, coffee, juice, fresh fruit etc.) plus one hot entree of the day (one day it was blueberry banana pancakes; another day it was veggie omelets - cooked to order too). It faces the ocean. Rip tides prevent swimming but you can walk along the beach for almost an hour and find a calmer place. There wasn't anything about this hotel I didn't like. I must say that when we drove through the neighborhood I thought "What did I get us into?" because the area looks run down. Had no problems though and didn't hear any complaints from others. P.S. There's no pool if that's important to you.

Room Tip: Second or third floor for view of ocean.

Loved the property. Hotel has the most beautiful view of the ocean from the terrace. The staff was very knowledgeable about things to do and see while visiting. Marisela, Mario, and Analisse made the visit a memorable one. This place is a definite pleaser and i would recommend it highly to anyone looking for a great trip to Puerto Rico.

Room Tip: the top floor middle room has the best view

The location en route to the Vieques and Culebra ferry terminal is very convenient. Friendly people and staff. Nice, uncrowded surf beach right in front (strong rip tide currents, non-surfers beware). The street in front had broken glass on it, which is not the hotel's fault, but please don't walk barefoot.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights. It is a lovely place with a nice view of the Atlantic Ocean. We planned to go to the islands of Culebra and Vieques which is why we chose to stay here. The Fajardo Ferry Terminal is about 20 minutes from here and was very convenient to drive to, especially when we wanted to get there early to purchase ferry tickets.

They offer snorkeling gear rentals which we used. The concierge was nice enough to suggest a few good vegetarian restaurants nearby but we didn't have the time to try them out. The beach opposite the Inn is too rough for swimming but there is a better, calmer beach a little way up West on the road.

Room was comfortable, clean and quite spacious. Comforting sounds of coqui frogs from the garden behind the hotel could be heard throughout our stay. A memorable place.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms face the ocean and all rooms are pretty much the same.
