My husband and myself were spending our last 2 nights in PR before heading back home. My husband had been to this beach area back in the 70's as a young boy who loved to surf. He thought that he would re-visit his childhood memories, however he was very disappointed & shocked at how the area had gone down hill!!!! All that Luquillo had to offer were big waves that local surfers took advantage of which was across the street from the property.
Since this review is really about the hotel let me visit that with anyone reading this. As we followed the directions to the Luquillo Sunrise Beach Inn we experienced a really poor environment (neighborhood) which is totally run down & disheveled. We approached the Luquillo Sunrise Beach Inn and pulled up to a white pvc gate that had to be opened with the remote control to access the property. This property is surrounded on 3 sides by very shady & shabby housing to the point of feeling uncomfortable. We decided to go forward and give it a try anyway. We got to our room and noticed the decor to be of the 70's. This was not how we wanted to spend our last 2 romantic nights on the island. If you're looking for romantic this is NOT the place. The towels were on the small side and very rough to the touch. The bedding and pillows had plastic around them, so when you slept all you felt and heard was crackling from the plastic. To say the least it was a really uncomfortable sleepless night. I could not wait for the morning to come quick enough! They offered plastic cups for drinking as apposed to glass which in my personal opinion relates to cheap. Lastly, they did not provide hair dryers in the room. You had to be inconvenienced to go downstairs to get one.
Oh & I must add that looking for a place to eat dinner was a nightmare. We had to drive once again through the seedy area only to find really bad food! I was so scared and panicked about parking our car (we were lucky enough to find a space directly in front of the restaurant).
The one positive note I will mention is that the front desk girl upon checking in was pleasant.
I (we) feel that the hotel misrepresented itself! It is not a guesthouse as stated on their website & it is not quaint.
