“not what we expected!”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

My husband and myself were spending our last 2 nights in PR before heading back home. My husband had been to this beach area back in the 70's as a young boy who loved to surf. He thought that he would re-visit his childhood memories, however he was very disappointed & shocked at how the area had gone down hill!!!! All that Luquillo had to offer were big waves that local surfers took advantage of which was across the street from the property.

Since this review is really about the hotel let me visit that with anyone reading this. As we followed the directions to the Luquillo Sunrise Beach Inn we experienced a really poor environment (neighborhood) which is totally run down & disheveled. We approached the Luquillo Sunrise Beach Inn and pulled up to a white pvc gate that had to be opened with the remote control to access the property. This property is surrounded on 3 sides by very shady & shabby housing to the point of feeling uncomfortable. We decided to go forward and give it a try anyway. We got to our room and noticed the decor to be of the 70's. This was not how we wanted to spend our last 2 romantic nights on the island. If you're looking for romantic this is NOT the place. The towels were on the small side and very rough to the touch. The bedding and pillows had plastic around them, so when you slept all you felt and heard was crackling from the plastic. To say the least it was a really uncomfortable sleepless night. I could not wait for the morning to come quick enough! They offered plastic cups for drinking as apposed to glass which in my personal opinion relates to cheap. Lastly, they did not provide hair dryers in the room. You had to be inconvenienced to go downstairs to get one.

Oh & I must add that looking for a place to eat dinner was a nightmare. We had to drive once again through the seedy area only to find really bad food! I was so scared and panicked about parking our car (we were lucky enough to find a space directly in front of the restaurant).

The one positive note I will mention is that the front desk girl upon checking in was pleasant.

I (we) feel that the hotel misrepresented itself! It is not a guesthouse as stated on their website & it is not quaint.

We were traveling throughout Puerto Rico and was planning on staying in Fajardo. As we looked for places to stay we came across Luquillo Sunrise Beach Inn. The location might look shady but its not. You can't get any closer to the beach, restaurants and bars within walking distance and really friendly service. Most importantly the place was very clean and the rooms really comfortable.

Room Tip: We were on the third floor, corner unit...was fine for us.

We chose this based on the reviews, and we were not disappointed. We booked the casita for 4 nights, a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom former beach house converted into a hotel suite. Our private patio overlooked the beach and was about 20 steps from the sand.
The owner was awesome, take him up on an iguana walk or turtle walk if it's offered. You won't be disappointed.
Luquillo is more local and tourist, but the sunrise inn treats you like family so it works out in the nicest way.
2 blocks from a beer store. 1 block from a awesome restaurant that serves pina coladas to-go as well as rents surf boards.
All in all a wonderful place to stay in paradise.

Room Tip: If you have a group larger than 4, grab the casita, its worth it. If not, get the second or third fl...

I want to go back to Puerto Rico with my wife and stay at the Luquillo Sunrise Beach Inn again. The hotel is very clean and the service is top notch. The management and staff are so helpful. The breakfast's are excellent with fresh fruit, juice, made to order eggs, pancakes, waffles and pastries. Every person I met was friendly and enjoyed sharing their adventures. The patio overlooks the ocean and the views are incredible. Want to go somewhere or do something, ask the staff and they will arrange your adventure and you can can get a discount by arranging your adventure with them. The best part is that you are across the street from the beach. The inn will let you use beach chairs and towels. I have recommended the Luquillo Sunrise Beach Inn to friends. I proudly wear my T-shirt.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 1st floor but I want a Balcony room facing the ocean next time.

Our family including two teenagers had an incredible stay here! This is the first review I have ever written. We were helped by the most amazing people there, and looked forward to each full breakfast of comfort food. Some of our happiest memories were sitting on the porch, talking with the people that work there. We were made to feel like family on New Years Eve and enjoyed celebrations at the gourmet pasta place next door that we could not stop going back to.

This was probably one of the most welcoming hotels ever. It's cute & clean, and feels like a bed & breakfast should: cozy, hospitable, and relaxing (with a really yummy breakfast!). We had a gorgeous view of the beach, and I loved that we could use their beach chairs & beach towels. The staff treats you like GOLD -- I literally wanted to hug all of them when we left! It was an absolutely fantastic experience, and we would go back again in a heartbeat!

My friend and I spent several nights here on our trip to Puerto Rico back in February 2011. Although it is not a fancy place and if you can overlook the plastic plants in your room, it was inexpensive, friendly, and popular with an international clientele. We had the suite on the ground level with its own private entrance, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a sitting room, and a kitchenette. Best of all, its had its own huge covered terrace (see photograph) with solid tables and chairs for dining al fresco. It also overlooked the surfing beach.

Breakfasts consisted of the usual cereal, fruit, yogurt, and a hot, cooked-to-order Puerto Rican egg dish, and was more than adequate.

It was a great place to spend some time, relaxing at the beach or hiking at the Junque National Forest just a short drive away. I do not recommend swimming from the beach in front of the inn, unless you are a good swimmer or a surfer--it is also too close to the road for comfort. The nearby Balneario Luquilo (the most famous public beach in Puerto Rico), however, is gorgeous and has beautiful sandy beaches, with life-guards on duty, plus the views from there of the bay are magnificent. An ice-cream man comes round periodically, and, if he does while you are there, I recommend ordering the mango sorbet. Very refreshing and delicious! But don't miss the rain forest and the interpretive center at Junque, while you are at the Sunrise Beach!
