We visited the Monserrate on a weekday aftenoon: what a treat! The beach was nearly empty, perhaps 15 people in it's enormous expanse. Beautiful water and beach that eases back under widely-spaced coconut palms to give shade from the sun. Quiet, clean, and the water temp just cooler than the air, making for a wonderful swimming experience. We're coming back and plan to set aside more time for Monserrate.

Like all beaches, it has many moods. This beach is particularly calm and the view back to the mountains is great. prefer to go out by the point, less crowded.

This beach is very pretty with clear, nearly still waters. I could look down in waist high water and see my pink toenail polish! We rented chairs and found a nice spot in the shade. We were starving since we had just come from the nearby rainforest and went to find food in the many food kiosks further down the beach. There were so many kiosks, we stopped after viewing 5-6 of them, but there are local fried favorites, paellas, stews, burger shacks and bars. I can bet this string of kiosks comes alive in the evening or weekend as the locals were there enjoying it, too. The parking is about $4 per car, or you can park free on the beach directly behind the kiosks. We packed a cooler full of water, beer, rum punch and other snacks and had a blast!

We had a half of tank of gas to blow on the rental Jeep, so we decided to go to Luquillo. What a great decision! When you get there, don't go to the official Moserrate Beach through the main enterance...keep going down the road by following the kiosks signs. You'll hit a bunch of kiosks--beach bars and restaurants. Drive to the back and you can park seaside on the beach (which is why I recommend renting a 4x4). Beautiful views and the friendly beach bars are right there. We ended up staying all afternoon and even had an amzing fried fish dinner at one of the restaurants. Loved it!
