“Park the Jeep on the beach and stay awhile!”
Review of Monserrate Beach

Monserrate Beach
Reviewed August 25, 2012 via mobile

We had a half of tank of gas to blow on the rental Jeep, so we decided to go to Luquillo. What a great decision! When you get there, don't go to the official Moserrate Beach through the main enterance...keep going down the road by following the kiosks signs. You'll hit a bunch of kiosks--beach bars and restaurants. Drive to the back and you can park seaside on the beach (which is why I recommend renting a 4x4). Beautiful views and the friendly beach bars are right there. We ended up staying all afternoon and even had an amzing fried fish dinner at one of the restaurants. Loved it!

Love the quiet beach (we went on a week day), loved the clear and so calm water, the white sand with absolutely NO ROCKS at all, the facilities... it was a very hot day so we enjoyed the water!

The water is crystal clear and very calm. This is great for children. There are chairs available for rental and palm trees for shade. There are also many food kiosks which serve mostly authentic "fried" foods. I did find some good grilled chicken with rice & beans. There are also several bars. You have to pay about $4 for parking, but it is readily available. There is a small fee to use the restrooms, but they are clean.

My family and I visited this beach last week. We had read the reviews so we went on a weekday and got there early in the morning for a shady parking spot (parking was $4.28 (weird amount which was why I remembered it from previous posts). The bath house was very clean and the attendant was super friendly (make sure to bring a picture id with you if getting a locker). The bathrooms were $1/each for the day (they give you a wristband) and think the locker was also $1. There was a restaurant on site with drinks, pinchos, etc. and ice cream from the carts on the beach were wonderful ($4 for the large, $3 for the small). There was a lifeguard on site and a roped off for a swimming area. Our kids had a great time swimming and playing in the sand. The negatives though -the beach was dirty and even some trash in the water (although this beach was a lot cleaner than others we saw on this side of the island). We were spoiled though after spending the beginning of our trip on the western side and went to a few other public beaches there that were both clean and amazingly clear.

My family and I visited this gorgeous beach in Luquillo and absolutely loved it. The water is clear, warm and serene. Bathrooms and changing facilities are a plus, as are chair & umbrella rentals, accessible parking and very affordable snacks and drinks. The beach is kept very clean and kayak rentals are also readily available. I would definitely recommend visiting this beach. Just be careful not to confuse this beach with the Luquillo beach area behind the kiosks. We mistakenly went there first thinking it was Monserrate Beach. THAT area is filthy, unkempt, crowded and without any facilities.
