“Owners' Getting Confortable”
Reviewed August 14, 2012

Still the Best Burgers in Puerto Rico. Great Prices! Owners are great. Nevertheless, the other service staff is no longer as helpful. It seems the owners’ need to be stricter with their staff. Food takes an inordinate amount of time to prepare and the establishment is not air conditioned. More fans are necessary so every inch is covered by some breeze. There continues to be a problem with trash in the area (not in the restaurant) which is not managed well by the local municipality. Careful with small children as cars speed by the front.

“Slow (but friendly) service and so-so food.”
Reviewed August 8, 2012

Like many others we hit the kiosks after a day exploring the rainforest. We got there about 4 pm, were famished, and were glad it wasn't crowded. In fact, there was only one other table of diners. Sadly, this truth did not translate into speedy service. We got our soft drinks quickly but waited nearly an hour for a grilled tilapia sandwich ($9) and three orders of the "fish buckets" ($10) and fries. The fish, dipped in Medalla (local beer) batter and deep fried was tasty but all agreed the portions were quite small. Sodas were $1 and mixed drinks were $5. Later in the week we stopped in while souvenir shopping and sat at the bar. The personable bartender made one of the best pina coladas ever - a healthy pour of rum in the mix and dark rum poured into the top of the glass after it was filled. Yum! The whole kiosk area starts to fill up between 5 and 6 with locals and tourists. The restaurant itself was clean and inviting - not every kiosk is. The wait staff was pleasant (They can't help it the food is slow, right?) and bilingual. The music was lively - hits you'll recognize from the 80s. There's plenty of "graffiti" on the walls to look at and passers by to watch from this open air establishment. Reading the other reviews I wished we'd tried burgers instead but were satisfied enough with our fare. I wouldn't go back again starved and hungry but I would go back - especially for that colada.

“Its good, but not great”
Reviewed August 3, 2012

They serve really nice burgers, but they overcharge you for extras. Not worht the money. Its over priced. What i found really cool about the place is that they seve the bbers in your very own cooling can. Very cool experience! Worth the visit, but just one time.

“Best Burgers I'v Ever Had”
Reviewed July 30, 2012

If you want to experience Puerto Rico and all its aspects, you have to go to the Luquillo Kiosks. El Jefe Burger may not appear to be anything special from the outside, however sit down and enjoy one of there delicious burgers and you'll be a fan forever. Since i'v returned from Puerto Rico, i'v considered spending airfare to return just for their food. The el jefe sauce is absolutelly heavenly. THe drinks are great and the atmosphere once inside is fun. We ended our second meal there by writing on their wall. It seems to be something fun they do there. Bottom line: dont be intimidated by the outward appearance of the kiosks, you'll save a lot of money going there, it is safe and best of all the food is delicious.

“Huge burgers, fair prices, just O.K. though”
Reviewed July 23, 2012

We tried to eat at El Jefe for lunch after our El Yunque trip but there was a mix-up with the meat delivery and they hadn't ground the meat yet for burgers and it was going to take over an hour! We were starving so decided to pass on it. Went back the next day for dinner and ordered the basic cheeseburgers and while my husband and one son thought it was wonderful, I thought it was just O.K. and underseasoned. Our other son thought it was just O.K. too but that was probably because they were out of bacon. That was another issue. The menfolk ordered sodas but they were out of everything-the chef was making a run to the store right then! The soda's got there mid way through our meals. The service was friendly but like all places, it's slow. We joked that our entertainment while waiting was watching the snails on the patio. Seriously, we watched the snails and stray cats on the patio-that tells you what the atmosphere is like too!
