“Loving the Rain Forest...frogs and all.”

The time spent at Sue's Place was enjoyable for my husband and I as well as our graduating grandson. The accommodations is what you would expect in a rain forest...nestled in among the trees surrounded by tropical plants and beauty galore. The Quoqui frogs begin their songs in late afternoon and become increasingly loud as the sun sets. Come prepared with ear plugs and you will sleep well. Sue and her new neighbor which is a long time friend moving from Malaysia were a delight to talk to. Ever so helpful. Sue's husband teaches surfing in Luquillo and they know all the good places to go. Very convenient to El Yunque National Forest and don't forget your National Forest Pass!!!

Room Tip: Bring ear plugs for a peaceful nights sleep. Remember that you are trying to experience getting awa...

Sue's Place is right outside of El Yunque national forest, but you wouldn't know it from looking around. You would swear you were in the thick of El Yunque. There are narrow, twisty, one-lane roads to reach her mountain home. Sue's advice on handling the roads? "Just roll the car windows down, turn on your lights, and blow the horn every now and then, you'll be fine."
We knew mostly what we were getting into by staying here both good and bad: remote location, no a/c, few amenities. For us the Pros outweighed the Cons. It is priced right, we were able to make meals, and truly enjoy the scenery. We did have to share the house with the coquis (chirpy little tree frogs) but we did not mind. For us, that was part of choosing a house in the forest.
Sue's place was ideally located for what we wanted to do in Puerto Rico: it's about 20 minutes to the beach, or El Yunque National Forest, or the bio-bay. She's about 45 minutes from San Juan (we did that on a day trip).
The best thing, and the reason we will stay again (given the chance) is once you are back from your day's adventure, you can truly un-plug and unwind while immersed in a rain forest. The hills are lush with greenery and tropical plants. Light rains roll in daily it seems. The coqui chirp from dusk til dawn. And the mountain breeze comes even on the warmest of days. Have a good book, put your feet up, grab a cold beer and go off the grid.

We learned of Sue's place from a good friend in Maryland where we live. All I can say is we had the most amazing vacation we have ever had together and Sue's place is an absolute gem. We could not get enough of the peace and tranquility of being a top a mountain in the rainforest. We are first-timers to Puerto Rico so Sue was absolutely amazing in the assistance and help she provided us. She was there and ready to assist when called upon and we were left to ourselves to simply make memories and enjoy our stay. I have honestly never had a more relaxing and amazing vacation, from the trip there, the drive to the house we rented, the Pinchos!!! the sites we saw and the meals we ate. Everything was just perfect. Cant wait to get back!!!!

My 9 year old daughter and I stayed in the loft for two nights. The place exceeded my expectations. It was great to meet Sue and hear her stories of raising a family in the area. The loft was comfortable and had everything we needed. The luxury here is Sue's gardens and the surrounding jungle. My daughter really loved hunting coqui frogs and lizards. I loved that she got a sense of what it's like in the "country" in Puerto Rico, away from sterile massive resorts. We hope to bring the whole family back soon and take surf lessons from them.

We stayed for almost a week at the Chalet with our 5-year old son and friend. It was a great experience. If you are looking for a resort, this is not it. We enjoyed the porch, the views, being away from the hustle and bustle. We all reveled in the sounds of the coqui at night, and rooster during the day. There were little bugs, but no mosquitoes or any scary critters. There were some bugs that came in when the lights were on, so we closed the doors (left the screen doors open) and we were fine. We bought groceries and cooked in a well supplied kitchen. The beach is only 10 minutes away and has some great food in kioscos. We also went on some trails that Sue recommended in the rain forest and that was great too. Sue was a great hostess, giving us what we needed, but also giving us a lot of space. Others have complained about the lack of A/C but with the open windows, lots of fans, we never needed the a/c. Sue also has satellite tv (which we only turned on for 15 minutes in the week we were here) and wifi which we used a lot.

Room Tip: we loved the chalet.

We stayed at the loft for 2 days. We enjoyed the patio very much. It's like camping in the jungle with all the comfort. The loft was very cozy and comfortable. The view outside is magnificent.

Sue was an excellent host and she helped us with places to see and recommended travel ideas.

We would definitely go back the next chance we get.
