Stayed there with musical group, "Frank Znort Quartet" january 2008.
It was like stepping home into your own backyard, summer was there, interesting people, friendly atmosphere, the jamaican soundtrack, but safe and secure..

Most beautyful location, a 26 seconds fast run to enter the waves pounding the lovely beach of Billies Bay. All alone most of the day at the beach.

And the service from the staff, real people(!), was outstanding, They worked and they toiled day and night, just to make us have a good time! Blessed, thank you all!
Hope to see you again, soon come!

I stayed at the Irie Rest Guest House for the first week of July with my wife Pearleta. Lenny had organised a taxi from Kingston Airport and on arrival gave us a self contained apartment with a large kitchen, bedroon, veranda and bathroom. Pauline who helps to run the guest house cooked us a brilliant breakfast and evening meal the following day and for 6 nights we enjoyed the guesthouses facilities, swam in the ocean which was 3 minutes walk away, ate fresh fish delivered to the doorstep, took in the Black River and its crocodiles and the Pelican Bar a mile or so off shore on an ocean reef as well as a Maroon Village in the mountains. Lenny and Pauline did everything thing they could to ensure that our stay was relaxing and enjoyable.

If you want somewhere away from mass tourism and are not looking for a five-star with three pools, ten bars and organised entertainment but do want a very friendly, real Jamaican experience, this is a great place to stay.

We came for nine nights over new year 2008/09, both having visited Jamaica previously. We had never been to Treasure Beach, though, and it was exactly what we wanted. From the minute we arrived, Lennie, the owner, made us feel very welcome. Evening meals are normally by arrangements made earlier in the day and are taken at a large table outside (but covered!). However we did not arrive until the evening, but there was no problem with Pauline (the chef and domestic manager) getting something made up for us. Remember this is a guest house, not a hotel with restaurant. Pauline also prepares the very good breakfasts. Just ask when you come to the table/bar.

The rooms are basic (with en-suite) but a reasonable size. Life there seemed to be about getting up whenever you wanted (but it usually turned out to be earlyish), having coffee, lazing in the garden or yard for a while deciding what to do with the day, having breakfast, chatting to staff and other guests and going out. If you do not have your own transport (car, motor bike or push bike can be arranged, but mind the potholes), Lennie can arrange for a local driver to take you where you want to go. He can also organise boat trips with the local fishermen. He will in fact do anything to help you enjoy your stay. The nearest beach is only a short walk away.

Treasure Beach is a collection of villages on the coast. It is worth going out to the little local bars - people are extremely friendly and happy to talk. There is no pressure to do anything at all, it is so relaxed. We went out to some of the other towns in the area (Black River, Mandeville and others) and it was so non-touristy it was great. There are places worth visiting around the area, and you can really get to see how Jamaicans live (and get to know them) but the Irie Rest is so relaxed, with a lot of local people dropping in that sometimes you just want to hang around and chill out. It's also a good way of meeting local people and making friends. Indeed, we had bought tickets for the New Year's eve party at Jakes but ended up staying at the Irie Rest.

By the end of our holiday, Lennie was certainly a friend rather than a host and we look forward to going back to the Irie Rest sooner rather than later.

We have just returned home from what I would call a really relaxing holiday!
The Irie Rest Guest House must have been built on old fashioned values, the customer comes first! Lennie, the owner, Pauline, (the boss)! and Brian made our stay so relaxed it was a wrench to leave. We have stayed at many places in Treasure Beach but there was always something to moan about on reflection. With Irie Rest it is like staying at one of your relative's houses without the restrictions. The website does not do the place justice. No it is not a five star hotel and you do not get a pool with waiters at your beck and call. What you get is good honest Jamaican hospitality. The rooms are comfortable not grand but if you need a base they are adequate, plus we did not know it had ac until we arrived, we only used it for the first few nights after which we used the fan. Lennie has built this place because he loves people not because he want big bucks. The locals are in and out all day, there are vans that bring in fresh vegetables a couple times a week and I made full use of them, the fruits are to die for! I have not mentioned that the prices are Very reasonable. The food cooked by Pauline is culinary heaven and the beach is two minutes away! The tariff is $40 per day not including food which is at Jamaican rates make for a very good, very reasonable stay in Treasure Beach. We are already planning to go back in a few months. I could go on about this hidden treasure but I won't.

Irie Rest is one of those places that you might only come across once or twice in a travelling lifetime. A small complex (9 rooms) set in a sleepy village on the southwest coast of Jamaica. Owner Lenny is usually on site, he has created a mini paradise that revolves around relaxation and atmosphere, not money and pressure.

Our room was clean, spacious and comfortable (and cheap!). The food served by Pauline in the kitchen is great. A secluded and beautiful caribbean beach is metres away.

Most of all though, there is just a chilled and friendly Jamaican vibe here. This is the antidote to the concrete jungle of Kingston, or the tourist hustle of Negril. It's worth mentioning how safe this place is, we wandered around for hours during the day and night, with not a worry.

Don't come here if you want rent-a-dread hustlers or flashy bars and restaurants. Do come here if you want a slice of real Jamaica and a chance to meet locals who are not yet so exposed to tourists that they have become jaded.

Highly, highly recommended.
