“One of the best places in the Caribbean”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2013

I have stayed at Jakes probably half a dozen times and it will always be one of my absolute favorites. The hotel and its great cabanas are wonderful and the restaurant is superb. What makes Jake's truly outstanding is the spirit and community leadership that embody the whole operation. Jake's is closely tied to a local organization called BREDS, and BREDS is a pillar of sustainable community development. In the last few years they have established an outstanding sports complex as well as a Fish Sanctuary called the Galleon Beach/Malcolm Bay Fish Sanctuary. One of the best experiences at Jake's (and in all of Jamaica) is to spend the morning visiting the Fish Sanctuary with Captain Dennis "Shaba" Abrahms before heading out to the Pelican Bar for a cold Red Stripe.

The service was so great - we stayed an extra night! The salt water pool was great. The restaurant food is delicious but a little pricey. The rooms were prefect. Our 1 year-old had a blast with all of the staff!!

Should have written this sooner, I know. Jake's was a combination anniversary/graduation week long getaway for our whole family beginning Father's Day 2012. At first, the weather was a little disappointing (RAIN) but we needed the first day or so to unwind anyway. We stayed in Mussels which had the perfect amount of space for the five of us. Plenty of outdoor covered space so when it rained, we had plenty of room to read, eat, drink, nap and play cards. The outdoor shower is fantastic! My spouse and I had a private romantic dinner right on the cliff above the ocean just next to Mussels. The roof deck of Mussels was also maginficent for sunset viewing and champagne toasting. The kitchen wasn't perfect but the staff fixed everything that they could. The lack of wifi and TV reception was just what we needed. (Wifi was in reception).

Room Tip: Mussels was perfect for a family of 5. Two rooms with a queen - one with ensuite bathroom and Frenc...

We had such a lovely Honeymoon, everything was perfect. All the staff were so friendly and helpful and the rooms and grounds were beautifully kept. We were really impressed with how clean treasure beach is and also how much of a good community spirit there is. We spoke to many local people while wandering around the village and everyone was friendly and interesting.

We had a pickup from the airport and the driver was waiting for us on time in his jakes shirt, he was super laid back and super cool. We asked for him on all our other excursions and he was excellent everytime. We prefer to avoid the hordes where posible and support local businesses. This was so easy with Jakes.

Private boat trip to deserted beach, awesome pizzas with Jerk sausage, hammocks, nice wooden loungers scattered in little cul-de-sacs across the grounds beautiful gardens ... it goes on and on.

We stayed a week in the Honeymoon suite 'octo3' and a week in Jellyfish, both were exquisite, quiet and private, well equipped and subtly maintained.

I would be happy to (and have been) recommending Jakes to all our friends.

A huge thanks to everyone at Jakes, keep doing what you're doing!

much love

Room Tip: All the ocean front rooms are breathtaking literally the sea is crashing into the balcony/deck We...

Spent a week at Jakes and loved it ! It's very quiet and feels like you've stepped back into another Jamaica from years ago. great beach near by. Staff couldn't be nicer and the rooms are truly unique with amazing views.
No TV's or luxury, but that's kind of the point!
Wonderful escape !

jakes was recommended to me by a family member 15 years ago and I finally just got to vacation there. you know when you drive from the airport to your hotel/resort and you see the local life passing by and you think that is where you are going but then you pull into a pristine hotel resort that doesn't resemble at all the beautiful trip in? This was the hotel you wish you were pulling into...

Dennis drove us from Montego Bay Airport to Jakes. I was amazed by the beauty during our crazy drive and stunned at the cool places and people along the roadside...Dennis took us to BorderJerk, one of these locals places off the side of the road for the best jerk we have ever had in our life. served in aluminum foil with a red stripe and a plastic fork...it was heaven.

We slowly made the descent into Treasure Beach...just as the sun was about to set we checked in and were given fresh mango juice and the kindest faces greeting us. We were brought to our amazing room, abalone up, a romantic, private space with an outdoor daybed to watch all of our sunsets and day to night with millions of stars above our heads...every night.

Each day was a gradual progression from our brass bed with mosquito netting listening to the waves crashing outside, moving to the outdoor day bed, downstairs for a little ackee and saltfish for breakfast, then to the saltwater pool and comfortable chairs for chilling all day...delicious drinks being brought to us at any moment...

dinner by candlelight on the beach, walking down the road to jack sprat for lively music, seafood and pizza and people from treasure beach to all over the world.. everyone we met knew everyone else. many people were related to other people we had just met that afternoon.

One day in the pool talking to some cool women who had been long time guests of jakes, it turned out one of them knew my sister who was who told me about this place 15 years ago!

didnt need to do much, loved just chilling at jakes all day, but here were the highlights of stuff to do:
•pelican bar...filled with locals and travelers, very cool
•little ochie, a one hour drive but sooooo worth it.
•pardy's coffee shop down the road from jakes
•movie night at jack sprat
•captain jospeh's 'king fish cookout' -an amazing boat trip to a remote stretch of uninhabited beach to swim, relax, have cocktails made for you and then at lunchtime, an enormous dish of kingfish, garlic lobster tail (the best thing I ate the whole trip), rice and beans, served with wine under an umbrella on the beach. hit pelican bar again on the way home...a must do.

the grounds, the attention to detail, in a rustic, authentic way...was the perfect setting.

a huge thank you the staff of jakes, you saw the owner walking around everyday making sure everyone was happy...it was truly a perfect vacation. we just booked our honeymoon for 2014.

We had a lovely time at Jakes! Everything was just wonderful and we loved our two units in the cottage called Cowrie and all the beautiful views and landscaping - and the delicious food. Since we drove over from Montego Bay we enjoyed the lovely drive to Great Bay beach - the swimming was perfect. The coffee at Smurf's Cafe just down the road was also very good and we loved our day trip to Black River and the Pelican Bar (but just go for a cold beer). We also enjoyed reading about the history of Jake's and all the great work Jake's does with and for the community. Everyone was very friendly and the music and drinks at Dougies (the bar a Jake's overlooking the pool) was perfect. My husband and I had one unit and our two teenagers had another unit and we were all very happy and came home well-rested.

Room Tip: The spa at Jakes is also quite beautiful and relaxing - I had a very relaxing pedicure. Do not driv...
