Jacoway Inn is one of the best places I've ever stayed while on vacation, period. Only two rooms, and you're out of the main "town" area of Calibishie, so you really feel like you're away from it all. But if you need to stop at the ATM, fill up the tank, or pick up some juice at a minimart, it's just a 15-minute walk down the hill into town.

We stayed in the upper room, the Skylark. If you have the choice, spring for the extra $5 a night for the heavenly balcony and sea views. It's like a studio apartment - a sleeping area, kitchen area (complete with dishes and a hot plate!), couch (which I think is really a futon for a third person, or the kids), and private shower/bathroom. Really a very nice room.

Carole Ann is great and will give you lots of local tips and advice! She is also a darn fine cook and will serve you a delicious three course meal upon request. She cooked our Valentines' Day dinner!

Speaking of food, a continental breakfast is included in the price of the room. This does not mean dry cereal and stale bagels. Fresh juice, fresh toast (from Carole Ann's bakery!), fresh fruit, fresh jam, and sometimes fresh veggies and cheese. There's also a breakfast menu with pancakes and omelettes and such.

I could go on and on about how much I loved my stay at Jacoway, but I'll stop. You get the idea!

Room Tip: Pick the Skylark room if you have the choice! It's the upper level with a balcony and ocean view...

Nice pleasurable stay! Great value, clean, private, safe, and convenient!

Waking up to freshly baked treats and delicious coffee provided by our hospitable host, Carol, was a delightful way to spend our last two days in Dominica.
The inn's location is ideal; set admidst lush countryside but close to secluded, unspolit beaches and the town of Calibishie where you can pick up incidentials.

The upper unit had a comfortable bed, nice bathroom, open layout, high ceilings and plenty of windows to feel the lovely breezes. The balcony was an added bonus to privately enjoy the vast planatation and sea views. The sky at night was amazing to watch.

We highly recommend Jacoway Inn and intend on staying there again soon!

My recent stay at Jacoway Inn was as close to perfect as I've been able to find in Calibishie. Although the village tends to be full of life and activity, it's nice to stay at a place that's a little more removed from the nightlife than some of the hotels on 'the flat'. Just a short walk or drive up the Jean-Baptiste Ridge, Jacoway Inn offers a serene and civilized respite from the comings and goings of the village, so if you need peace and quiet at the end of a long day exploring, this is the place. Nestled in lush gardens and shaded by mango, avocado and coffee trees, the inn has two suites, 'Gardenia' downstairs featuring its own verandah, and 'Skylark' upstairs, featuring its own balcony and a view of the ocean and the island of Marie Gallante. There is also a shared gazebo for dining and hanging-out, with hammocks for extra comfort. The inn is within easy hiking/driving distance of the beach at Batibou, the pool at Chaudiére, the black beach at the mouth of the Hampstead River, the Red Rocks at Point Baptiste and the beach at Woodford Hill.

The owner of the inn, Carol-Ann, will literally do whatever she can to make her guests' stays comfortable and memorable. The complimentary breakfast I received every morning featured delicious home-made breads and jams made from local fruit, but to really get a taste of what's good to eat on the island you need to have Carol-Ann make dinner for you. There's nothing like coming home from a long day hiking or at the beach or exploring, and finding a lovingly-prepared meal waiting for you. Or, you can ask her to prepare a packed lunch if you want to eat on the go. If you don't want to have Carol-Ann cook for you, Jacoway Inn is also a good place if you are fending for yourself, as each room features the kitchen basics: sink, toaster oven, hotplate, coffee maker, the works. The rooms even have bedside reading lamps, ceiling fans and WiFi, all of which are rarities on the island.

If you can drag yourself away from the hammock in the gazebo - it's harder than it sounds - don't hesitate to go in the opposite direction from the village, and hike the ridge all the way up to the top - the views are out of this world and you'll invariably strike up a conversation with a banana farmer heading home from the fields - hitch a ride in the back of a pickup truck if you get tired! Hiking the ridges and running into farmers is also a good way to end up with grapefruit, bananas, avocados and anything else they may wish to sell or barter. Most of the local people in Dominica don't really conform to the happy-go-lucky, carefree image that other Caribbean islanders do, but they are friendly, curious, and most importantly real. After a few days it's really easy to feel at home here and not want to go back to the home you left!

The Jacoway inn sits on a ridge above the small town of Calibishie, Dominica. The owner, Carol, previously had a popular beach bar in town. She recently has built a private guesthouse with two units on her property. It is surrounded by beautiful gardens and banana plantations. The ceilings are high in the large units, each with a kitchenette. Everything feels new and clean. But it's the special touches that make Jacoway Inn unique. The two units share a private gazebo in the garden with a bbq grill. When we arrived we enjoyed the best rum punch we've ever had. A beautiful bouquet of flowers was in our room. The towels were white and plush. We had an early flight out and were surprised to find a basket of the most AMAZING homemade breads! In addition our breakfast included fresh fruit, juice, butter, jam, coffee & tea. The cinnamon swirl bread was may favorite! We were sorry we didn't have Carol fix a dinner for us!! We had a car so being out of town was fine and quite peaceful after a day of touring. It is walkable from town but not convenient without a car. They have a good website: www.calibishie.net
