We had a FABULOUS time at Calibishie Cove. We found it easily. The kids loved the place. And Hazel and the staff were so warm, responsive and attentive it was wonderful.
The food was sumptuous and just what we needed! Individually prepared and delivered straight to our patio. The rooms were huge, clean and BUG FREE!! The view was breathtaking – especially the amazing moon view we had. Amazing.

We loved the "private" cove below the cliffs and the kids played Robinson Crusoe every chance they could.

We found the location to be centrally located for lots of exploring and had an exciting and adventurous hike up Diablotin one day. We started out at Noon on the trail and would NOT recommend that to anyone. We are fast hikers and came down in near total darkness – but the kids loved the adventure.

The Penthouse suite is incredible and for families with little ones, one of the Sea View rooms connects through an internal staircase which basically gives you spacious two story condo.
We had stayed in a very highly rated place in Dominica for the first few days of our stay and it did not compare in so many ways that we felt spoiled at CC.

We recommend Calibishie Cove highly to anyone visiting Dominica.

And don't miss Secret Beach just up the road. Magical.

Everyone was so accommodating.

My wife and I spent a week at Calibishie Cove (penthouse). I am looking forward to the day we can go back. Sitting here outside of Boston, with feet of snow on the ground, it seems ages away.
The penthouse layout is excellent for our needs. The deck wraps around the three sea views (spectacular) and is a very comfortable place to relax. The bedroom and living area are spacious and comfortable. The upstairs roof deck provides amazing views of the night sky.
The Calibishie Cove staff are superb, to say the least. Hazel cooked 3 dinners (and one breakfast) for us. Delicious!! She is also the property manager and an outstanding person. She is smart and will solve almost any problem, if you ask. Jackie is an impeccable housekeeper, and it was nice to come back to a very clean house each day. Jenner, who works with the Cove and helps operate Courtesy Car Rental, was our driver and guide for the week. I usually rent a car when we travel, but decided not to drive in Dominica. The roads are narrow, the turns are sharp, and many other cars seemed to drive too fast for the conditions. A traffic jam in Dominica (except, perhaps, Roseau), is 2 cars. If you are as lucky as I was to have Jenner take you on a hike or adventure, you will understand why I miss him.
Dominica is a VERY special place. I found the people to be quite friendly, the views to be spectacular, and even though I was busy with hikes and other adventures, I truly relaxed for the first time in a while. Calibishie Cove, on the north coast of the island, is easily accessible to Melville Hall airport and most island attractions. The drive to Roseau was somewhat long and very winding, but the road is almost all through rainforest and we stopped and saw several Jaco parrots on the way back.

As a true "Type A" personality, I spent weeks and weeks researching every hotel, B&B, eco-lodge, and villa in Dominica prior to our visit to the island in Dec. 2010. Calibishie Cove was by far one of the most highly rated hotels on the island and after our 5 night stay there I can see why!

Upon arrival, we were greated by the staff: Jenner, Jackie and Hazel (not to mention a delicious rum punch!) Hazel was kind enough to prepare dinner for us even though we arrived late in the evening and Jenner took the time to give us an overview of our room and the Calibishie Cove grounds. Although we had hoped to stay in the Penthouse Suite, the spacious Rainforest Suite with it's large patio and kitchenette was more than suffiicient. The views from our private patio were nothing short of breathtaking and the newly installed A/C unit in our room was an unexpected but lovely surprise! The staff was quick to respond to any request we had during our stay and Jackie greeted us every morning to ensure we had everything we needed before we headed out for the day (thank you for loaning us the travel cooler....it was a perfect companion for our beer during our excursions!

Aside from the beautiful accommodations, the level of customer service we received before, during and after our stay at Calibishie Cove is the #1 reason I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Dominica. The owners, Dwayne and Eileen Thorton, could not have been more helpful. They truly went above and beyond with the numerous suggestions of outdoor activites, cooridination of our private diving excursions, and helpful suggestions for our return trip to the island.

Thank you Dwayne, Eileen, Jenner, Jackie, Hazel and Arl for helping to make our vacation in Dominica one that we will never forget. We look forward to returning to Calibishie Cove very soon!

We spent a week in the penthouse in November for our honeymoon. Calabishie Cove was wonderful. The best part of each day was returning to Calabishie and enjoying a beer and the breeze while we relaxed on the porch. The breeze was heavenly and the view amazing. Every night we headed up to the rooftop to stargaze. The plunge pool was perfect for two and very welcome after a day hiking of exploring.

Hazel's cooking was delicious! Our plans to cook for ourselves (which we could have easily done with the full kitchen) never really happened. We enjoyed her cooking too much...barely ate anywhere else, although we did go to Glenda's Atlantic View and that was excellent as well.

Jackie was very friendly and kept our home away from home in tip-top shape. Jenner was very helpful and Arl was too (although we missed him since he got sick while we were there. We hope he is feeling better!).

We didn't sleep well, but that was no fault of Calabishie Cove - the bed was comfy, but for whatever reason we didn't sleep well away from home. On the plus side, we were always up to see the amazing sunrises!

It really was a lovely place to spend a week.

My friend and I spent two nights at Calibishie as a much needed relaxation weekend and could not have been happier or more satisfied with everything from the initial email communication, online reservation and confirmation to home cooked, amazing meals prepared in-house, to order and served in your room! The rooms and views are so breathtaking that you hardly have the urge to leave your room. Everything was exceptionally clean, modern and comfortable. Upon arrival, one receives a most heart-felt and warm welcome, followed by a tour of the room (which includes complimentary local cell phone, coffee and tea as well as a mini-bar stocked with snacks, sodas, juices and alcoholic beverages at a very reasonable cost). We ate all our meals there and paid less for MUCH more than we have at other places whether in the Caribbean, US or Europe and highly recommend Calibishie Cove to anyone visiting Dominica or for a quick get-away!

We spent 3 nights at Calibishie Cove (2 in the rainforest suite, and 1 in the penthouse). We enjoyed our time there, but do have some constructive criticism.

Setting - Calibishie Cove is set in the middle of a hill high above the ocean with a lovely view. It is at the bottom of the street with a small residential development above it on the hill. There is a beach that you can hike down to (5-10 minutes downhill), or others within close driving distance. The beach at the bottom of the hill was rocky, so we wore our wet shoes. It is about 15 minutes to the airport, and close to some other local sites and restaurants.

The rooms - Our time in the rainforest suite carries most of the criticism. Firstly, although I know that the security cameras are for the guests benefit, I don’t feel it is necessary for two of them to point directly onto the patio area. The room is oriented so there is no ocean view from the bedroom, but rather you face the kitchen from bed. I find this odd as the view outside is quite lovely, and the kitchen not so. This also doesn’t allow the ocean breeze to flow well through the bedroom. The penthouse however has no issue with ocean breezes. There are several windows opening directly onto the bedroom which is nice. The mini pool was a little chilly, so we didn’t go in. Both rooms had mediocre beds that had us both moving involuntarily when the other moved. The bathrooms in both rooms were on the dark side with low lighting, and not much natural light.

The food – We only had breakfast there, and it didn’t have us craving lunch or dinner. It was $9++ for scrambled eggs, toast, juice, and fruit. Bacon, sausage or pancakes could be added for $3. Not a bad price, but a fairly limited menu. A choice other than eggs for the main would have been nice.

The staff – Very friendly and helpful when asked.

Thank you for the lovely compliments on our wonderful views, convenient yet nature-immersive location, and marvelous ocean breezes! Our friendly and genuinely hospitable staff checks in with all our guests throughout their stay to see how they doing and if they need anything at all. When asked, you gave us and our staff consistently positive feedback. You were given an upgrade to a more expensive and twice-as-large suite that has been extremely popular with all other guests, as a courtesy. My husband and I, the owners, also follow up with each and every guest after their stay to make sure their trip met or exceeded their expectations. We take guest feedback seriously, and acting on many of the thoughtful suggestions guests have given us is what has made us superlative among Dominica hotels. When we spoke with you upon your return to North America, the sole piece of feedback you gave us was that you would have preferred the smaller Sea View room but chose not to say anything while you were staying with us. We had a lovely Sea View room available for you on this stay that would have been given to you had you mentioned your preference.

We have stayed at nearly every accommodation on the island of Dominica and have worked tirelessly to ensure that we have the most comfortable beds, best and most consistent shower water pressure and temperature, superlative bed and bath linens, nicest stone and hardwood finishes, etc. We are incredibly detail-oriented people who like to be comfortable and would offer our guests nothing less. Some guests prefer a firm mattress, and some a softer mattress. Most prefer the firmer surface. We have mattress pillow tops available for those who enjoy a plush surface, but they cannot be provided if we don't know of your preference. We stay in each of our rooms from time to time, of course using the bathrooms at night, and find the ambient lighting both pleasant and adequate. It is designed specifically to create the warm, gentle ambiance that it does. Additionally, there are 2-4 total lighting sources in each bathroom to accommodate detailed tasks without blinding guests who are making a very short middle of the night visit to the bathroom. Because we understand some guests are quite particular, we even have brighter bulbs available that would have been installed for you at the mere suggestion of a desire for brighter illumination.

However, as wonderful as our staff is at checking in with guests and doing everything possible to make guests comfortable and happy, they can’t help if they are told that everything is great and are never made aware of any concerns. Next time you travel halfway around the world for a vacation, you should let your hosts know if you have a need or expectation that isn't being met. That's the pleasure of staying at a small, family-run establishment -- the owners and staff will care that you are truly happy and do everything they can to ensure your comfort. The very best accommodations, like ours, also appreciate the chance to make things right (or even better than right) by being given feedback when things can be improved for you, rather than having your feedback weeks after returning home posted in a public forum, with no chance for us to make things right during your vacation. Our staff is very rare in that they have been with us from the beginning, and care deeply about the satisfaction of each and every guest. In fact, they actually cherish every opportunity that arises to please a guest.

As for the beautiful view from our Rainforest Suite, it is at least as good as the view from the smaller Sea View room we upgraded you from, if not better. Please see the Rainforest Suite page (under Rooms) on our website for the view from the bedroom window. I'm not sure if you had a chance to open the windows... the panoramic ocean view is even more expansive than the width of this photo allows. We designed this building to offer the best views Dominica has to offer.

We are known on-island for our best-in-class local food offering. We do not serve American-style bar food as some of the other modern establishments do, but extremely fresh local Dominica dishes, cooked to perfection by a local kitchen staff. Our breakfasts, lunches, and elegant dinners have received rave reviews all around. In general, but especially for breakfast, our team will prepare you anything you can dream of, as long as the ingredients are available on the island. As with all breakfast orders, they do need a little advance notice to do so. We are one of the few places on the island to offer breakfast, with choices from fresh tropical fruit to pancakes to eggs to codfish.

We send our very kindest regards, and sincerely hope we have the chance to host you on your next visit to Dominica.
