“Your own private part of the world. Calibishie Cove really is paradise.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2010

We loved our trip to Dominica and our stay at Calibishie Cove. We stayed in a sea view room for the first part of our trip and then we moved to the penthouse for the second part. Both were amazing and amazingly private with a view that could not be missed from wherever you stood (very impressive). I'm sure there are pretty corners of the world everywhere but I'd say this one (this guesthouse with that view) ranks with the best. The staff (Hazel and Arl) were excellent to us and Arl made sure we got to everything there was to see in Dominica which included some spectacular waterfalls and pools and the most beautiful beaches we'd ever stepped foot on. Also, the people of Dominica were so sweet and we really fell for them.
If I could give more than 5 stars to Calibishie Cove and it's staff I definitely would.

This was our first trip to Dominica but it will definitely not be our last. Calibishie Cove is one of the places that people literally dream about. The best staff support I have ever seen and peaceful beyond measure. Get there if you can.

We really enjoyed ourselves at Calibishie Cove. It's a beautiful place, in a beautiful setting, and in a beautiful country. While we drove around a bit, taking in Roseau, Portsmouth, and Marigot, our favorite activity was snoozing on the porch of the Penthouse, taking in the peaceful sights and sounds of all that was around us. Our most rigorous physical activity was getting in and out of the plunge pool! And we also loved hanging out at the Calibishie hangouts. Wonderful people, especially Hazel and Arl, who were very helpful, and smart enough to leave us two independent types to ourselves and yet be readily available as needed. As airline people, we've been blessed with the opportunity to travel everywhere in the world, but Dominica has to be one of the most beautiful places we've seen. And Calibishie Cove has to be one of the most beautiful lodgings we've stayed at.

Al, Hazel's nephew, really took care of me. He offered to cook dinner every night so I took advantage of it and he did. I had lobster every night for three nights with a different sauce Al made along with "provisions" a great local assortment of vegetables and potatoes. Al brought the plates down and they were delicious!

The room was great. You do fall asleep to the sound of the ocean every night and wakeup to a couple birds in the forest nearby in the distance. Be prepared to close the shutters over the bed at night because one night a little bit of wind and rain whipped up for a couple of minutes. I went during hurricane season but had no issues. It really showed me the power of the sea and weather though.

Every day was sunny...some coulds and a couple minutes of rain a few days. The Cove is built for a Category 4 hurricane and is surrounded by nature. It is also within a short walking distance to a different beach and beach bar at Red Rock. Ask Al for the shortcut route directions.

You can't beat the stunning views and relaxing time we had here. We arrived with plenty of plans and things we wanted to do - some of the best parts though were hanging out on the porch, Hazel's delicious island cooking brought right to the porch outside of our room. I highly recommend her bakes and codfish and dinner was great! We enjoyed talking with Hazel and Al and learning more about the island and life there. You do need a car to get around, which can be a downside. We walked into Calibishie, but you really need to get back before dark! Drivers (particularly those in minibuses) are insane. The beach by the property is a steep hike (again, don't do in the dark) and not great to sit on - much preferred Red Rock Haven (do hike to the Red Rocks, they are beautiful) We really enjoyed escape at Red Rock Haven - went there several times for lunch and dinner. It's got one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, great owners and they do take credit cards (many places did not - particularly local restaurants).
Make sure you ask for a cell phone as some places do require reservations. Also, if you want to get a hold of Hazel, before she arrives, that is the way to do it.
Make sure you take plenty to amuze yourself (cards, books, etc.) as there is no TV (one of the advantages) and spend some time admiring the humming birds and beautiful gardens. There is no AC, but ceiling fans worked well.

Calibishie Cove was an absolutely amazing place to stay in the paradise of Dominica. The rooms are so beautiful and the photos cannot even live up to the breathtaking views from the balconies and windows. My husband and I had one of the best vacations of our lives in Dominica. Hazel, the property manager, was friendly and helpful. She also is a wonderful cook and the dinner she prepared and served on the balcony was delicious!! We also had the opportunity to meet Dwayne, the owner, during our stay. He and his wife Eileen do a fantastic job with Calibishie Cove. I'm so glad that they had the vision for creating and opening the place. I cannot say enough how pleased we were with our entire experience staying at Calibishie Cove! Do not miss experiencing Dominica and Calibishie Cove. It really is a little slice of heaven!

I travelled to Calibishie Cove for 3 nights from the 13th of August until the 17th and I have to say that the place absolutely blew us away. The location is breathtaking, the views are absolutely stunning and the service that we received from Hazel the manager was absolutely out of this world. She is such a treasure and nothing is too much trouble for her or her lovely husband Pascal. Hazel really embodies the spirit of Dominica - the friendliness and openness of everyone that we met during our stay really left us speechless. I cried on Sunday morning when we left - really it's that good. The room we stayed in - Seabreeze - was gorgeous. The fittings etc are so well thought out and the room is a great size. Next time though we're going for the penthouse! The property owner Dwayne is a really great guy as well and ended up giving us a lift to the airport as he was leaving on the same flight. To sum up - there are lots of different places that you could stay in Calibishie but in terms of location, quality and the unbeatable service you won't find anywhere better that Calibishie Cove. Thanks Hazel!
