Don't expect a 5-star resort. Make the most of it, and you may enjoy the getaway - as we did.
Pros: very quiet location. Staff were very friendly. TV (Bell Sat) was good. 1 Canoe, 2 - 2person kayaks, 2-1person kayaks, paddle boat, row boat. Loved being able to take them out at any time. Lots of life jackets.
Cons: food-majority of items (very limited) were frozen. Mediocre at best. Travelzoo advert indicates "2 nights in a Queen Suite with forest or lakeside views". All rooms are forest view - the lake is a 15-min walk away. Central HVAC - no in-room controls. Travelzoo also indicates "1 dinner for 2 guests (reg $80)". How they come up with $80 I'll never know. Most expensive item on menu is $16. Internet was out from storm -Never did get fixed. No Rogers Cell service - Bell - OK. Golf course is - holes 10-18 (under construction). Found hole 1 - long abandoned (along with driving range).
Summary: the resort is definitely not what they advertise. We had to request the room be cleaned. Stained bed sheets still weren't changed. You can use a golf-cart to tour property-depending on who you ask. Has potential (just not right now). There are much better places to stay!

Room Tip: Don't pay for upgrade.

My Husband and I have just returned home from White Pine Shores. We had two fantastic days and will be rebooking to return in the fall. Our room was great, very spacious and with the pine on the wall we really felt like we where up north. The hotel is very clean with a large lobby and the staff are all five star. We enjoyed our time spent by the lake, went on some great hikes and went into Haliburton for a few hours which is a beautiful small town. This hotel is a great retreat and a great place to relax unwind. It is 30 minutes from the closest town and is a small hotel that even when it is sold out is not busy. The value for your money is incredible and I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to be up north and experience beauty. If you are only into high end commercial hotels with white glove service this hotel is not for you. The menu is a pub style menu that is simple but does offer healthy choices we enjoyed all of our meals. We sat with other guest during breakfast and meet some great people including the great staff. I had the best couple of days, we really enjoyed the hotel.

We checked into the White Pines Shores "Resort" yesterday - July 25th at 3pm and at 6 pm we asked for a complete refund and decided to drive 2 hours back home! I visited the website many times and was thrilled to see such a great deal on bookings.com. The website, the big sign out front and bookings.com all boasted - SPA, indoor pool, 2000 square foot sandy beach, 18 hole golf course, free WIFI and a NICE stay!!!! In my opinion the advertisements are completely false, misleading and is far from the actual state that the maybe one time resort is in. There is no SPA - but it is under construction and maybe completed soon, the 18 hole or 9 hole course, a scary course full of liabilities. Not one staff member or cart person for drinks or better yet no bathroom. Your handed a set of keys to a golf cart and expected to navigate the steep course and inclines and the very dry not kept course. There was a couple of times I chose to walk instead of cart because of the conditions. The views were amazing but I could stay in my car for the same view. The Beach and dock - we were pointed along a dirt path, through a field and finally found the beach. It did not have 2000 feet of sandy beach - there was no sand! We were told that the sand was being dumped last night. The Pool - well, there is one... but it had a leak and was being filled up last night (really?). They must be very busy in the evening!!!! No pool, no spa, no beach and there was a sort of a golf course. We were in our room long enough to know that this room was not worth 50 dollars let alone any other amount. Double bed at best, no mini fridge (as per website), no AC (as per website) our curtains were tied to together so we could not open them and the window handle was broken. Very small room directly in Lobby. The website boasts free WIFI - when I asked about the Service and WIFI I was told that the storm knocked it out. Not their fault. Well it isn't mine!!! The major fault here is pre advertising all the things you would like to have but really have nothing to offer. Not one thing that was offered in website is there, including the homes/cottages they are also advertising. When asking for our money back, we were not declined. They were prepared to do anything they could to make our stay the best but even dinner wasn't until 6:30 and there was no vending machines and the Pub looked vacant and possibly closed. There was no staff for the many acres of property. The beach, the course and the pub all unattended unless you were hungry at 6:30!! I cannot recommend this establishment. I have never seen such misleading advertisements - to the point of FALSE -

Let me say that I have stayed in many places around the world and I am able to keep an open mind about hotels/motels. When we booked our travelzoo deal over the phone, we made sure to ask more than once if it was alright if we brought our dog. When we arrived, the front desk was surprised that we had our dog with us. Because we had driven 3 hours and our dog is incredibly awesome, they allowed us to keep her with us. When we went back to the front desk to retrieve our key and talk to the clerk, there was a sign on the front desk that said there was no hotel staff at the front desk between the hours of 8pm and 7:30 am and they left a number to call in case of emergencies. There was also a security system in the building with a punch doorknob to get in and out of the building. When we asked the front desk where the beach was, we were directed to a short golf cart ride on a 911 road to the waterfront. We were very disappointed to see that the beach was small with very chairs to sit on. If we hadn't brought our own beach towels, we would have had nothing to dry off with. There was a number of canoes and kayaks to use as well as a rusty rowboat. But we stayed at the beach for a few hours and went back to our room. Our first night was fine. The hotel was full with a large group travelling together, but the hotel settled nicely around 10 pm. Our second night was vastly different. The large group allowed their children to run like maniacs through the hotel until midnight. With no phones in the rooms, no front desk clerk and no cell phone reception as well as speaking to children and adults directly, there was little to do but wait until the children settled at MIDNIGHT!! While this is not a reflection of the hotel staff, a guest has litte recourse in the event something serious happens. When my husband went out with our dog late at night, I set my timer on my watch, thinking he would need someone to let him in because someone had set a security code. But no, the security system was not used and anyone could walk freely into the hotel when they wanted to. The hotel staff did try their best to make our stay enjoyable and they were nice and friendly, the food was good and the beds were comfortable and they have done some renos to make it more updated and modern. But the way the second eveing was handled, with no one from the staff coming and telling people to be respectful of others and the lack of security, I will not go back to this hotel in the near future.

We booked a two night stay at the White Pine Shores Resort, but only stayed for one night. This resort advertised that "it is on scenic Benoir Lake", not true the lake is a 15 minute walk from the building., they further advertise " enjoy dockside swim or do laps in our 3-season indoor pool". The pool was under some type of construction and therefore was not open to guests. They also state that there are magnificent lakeside views from the golf course, however, if you don't play golf, as we don't, you will be really disappointed as there are absolutely no views from the resort building.

We arrived mid-afternoon and if you want a cup of coffee, bring your own coffee and filters, because they are not provided and the pub opens at 6:30p.m.

I returned home to where I grew up recently, for a family reunion. Last minute we stopped by White Pine Shores hoping there might be a vacancy. We were in luck! Ken was very welcoming and made us feel right at home. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff very friendly and accomadating. They are doing more renovations to the hotel to make it even more top notch. I have never grown tired of the natural beauty that the land and lakes have to offer. We were driving back to the hotel on the Sat eve. Thankfully we were driving quite slow, as a deer darted out in front of us. It was an exciting experience. We will be going up in the fall again, and this time we will be bringing some friends to see the magnificent colours that the autumn has to offer.

Don’t at any price go to this so called resort. There is not one good thing I could say about this place. We found this resort on travel zoo. They should be a shamed to advertise this place, I will think twice before using their web site again. We read the reviews on trip adviser and looked at their web site and so we booked the 2 day golf package. This gave you 2 nights with breakfast each morning for two and one dinner for two.
I have traveled to third world countries that had better rooms and food. The rooms had no air, one small window that opens. No balconies, no views of anything. The indoor swimming pool had no water. This place sits in a field not on the shores of any lake. You can walk to the lake in about 15 minutes. There is no 2000 feet of sandy shore line, they have dump a truck load of sand at the water .There is no dock, and they do have one paddle boat and one canoe. But they have no life jackets so bring your own
On are first night they were advertising fish and chips, we got frozen highlander fish from a box. I COULDN’T BELEIVE MY EYES. I wouldn’t feed this to anybody. Most of the food coming out of the kitchen was frozen food from a box like the pizza and wings we had on are second night. The White Pine Shores web site is a complete farce. There is no estate living,
Summer days at the cottage that you wish would never end, won’t ever happen here. I couldn’t wait to leave.
