Family of 5 had burgers, natchos, fish tacos and salads. All the food was really tasty. The torches on the deck outside with the snow in the background and music in the pub made it a really nice atmosphere.

Dave's is fairly new food venue at the Oakwood Inn. The previous operation was destroyed by fire which was a shame as it had a lot of really cool memorabilia. A sports themed restaurant, they have a ton of seating inside and on a floating patio overlooking their golf course. Very pretty.

The staff is usually capable of dealing with large groups.

Lots of bear on draft, good variety menu that has something for everyone.

Stay here too!

Thank your comments, we do appreciate it. In the seven years since we reopened the Clubhouse we have been fortunate to replace much of the memorabilia that was originally lost and as you alluded to it does create a great atmosphere.

Regarding bookings for groups, although we do not take reservations we do recommended calling ahead if you have a larger group. We are popular with both resort guests and locals so it is always best if we have a heads up if a larger group wishes to come in as we can recommend a time when more seating would be available.

Have eaten on the patio at Dave's Clubhouse several times & have never been disappointed. Lots on menu to choose from. Great salads & sandwiches. So nice to sit on patio with a cold beer & a meal after 18 holes of golf. Service is great.

The Oakwood Inn, despite what many people think, is NOT a private luxury resort. It is located about one kilometer from the main drag of Grand Bend, Ontario, which is one of Ontario’s premier beach resorts, and it adjoins a rather swanky golf course. But the Inn and its restaurants are open to the public, and if you’re looking for a great place to eat when you’re in the Grand Bend area, this is worth a try.

A group of seven of us ate there recently, at Dave’s Clubhouse (many locals simply refer to it as “The Pub”), which is the kind of full-service restaurant almost everybody could enjoy. We rated it as very good, and surprisingly affordable.

For a detailed look at our experience, let’s go around the table and see what each of us ordered, just as Mike, our friendly waiter would do. Start with the pulled pork sliders, two small, but delicious patties of lightly flavored pork, topped with coleslaw, in soft pretzel buns. Our guest said it had a “great flavor” and was easy to eat, and rated it 9/10. The only thing that prevented it from garnering a “10” was that the fries were too big and chunky; they could have been thinner, she said.

Next, my spouse ordered the crispy chicken pecan salad with balsamic vinaigrette on the side. The salad was a generous size, and was made up of fresh heritage greens, a panko-crusted chicken breast, thinly sliced, candied pecans (which were not too sweet and didn’t stick together or overpower the rest of the salad), grape tomatoes, mushrooms, red onions and sections of mandarin orange. The combination of flavors was fresh and interesting on the palate. My wife rated this 9/10.

Also of interest was my Italian grilled chicken with prosciutto on a bun. This was essentially the same chicken that came with the pecan salad, topped with thinly sliced prosciutto, a slice of Roma tomato, red onion and lettuce. The chicken was cooked perfectly. The tomato slice, onion and lettuce were fresh. The sauce did not deteriorate into a dribbling, mucky mess. The whole shebang held together well enough that it could be eaten without wearing it. Chipotle sauce for dipping the sweet potato fries offered enough zing to be enjoyable but not so much that it seared the tastebuds.

Another guest had the bam-bam shrimp, lightly battered and served with sweet and spicy red pepper sauce for dipping. This was pronounced “not too spicy”, which was fine, since the guest said she was not a fan of hot foods. She also ordered the French onion soup, which was loaded with caramelized onions, croutons and oodles of mozzarella cheese. It had an unusual added taste that was hard to define, though interesting. Her rating: 9/10.

The Oakwood burger, which could best be described as a gourmet burger without the gourmet price, was topped with cheese and bacon, served on a soft, artisan bakery bun. Fries and a dill pickle accompanied the dish. Our guest pronounced it delicious.

The final item, which most of us sampled, was the margarita flatbread. This was a baked flatbread, brushed with pesto, topped with sliced Roma tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach and bocconcini. It was “excellent”, “crispy”, and “easy to eat”, our guest noted, with another 9/10 rating.

Even the desserts – a peanut butter/chocolate cheesecake; a carrot cake/cheesecake (really, it was carrot cake, baked inside the cheesecake itself, and topped with caramel and finely sliced nuts) were all declared mouth-watering. Yes, we all sampled each others' treats! The only disappointment was the key lime pie, which I found artificially tart, crying out for a lot less RealLime.

An extremely attractive part of our lunch was that we ate on the patio, which seats approximately 50, and looks out over two holes of the resort golf course. On a warm summer’s day, it offered an ultra-relaxing atmosphere to accompany a thoroughly enjoyable meal.
In case the weather should be less than perfect when you visit, the inside of the Pub is decorated like the ultimate Man Cave, with paraphernalia celebrating the greatest (and a few not-so-great) golfers ever to play the game.

The Dave's Clubhouse at the Oakwood Inn is a great spot to eat, and despite the private club atmosphere, the prices are no higher, and perhaps even less than you would pay in some of the other eateries in this beachside resort town.

The menu at Dave's Clubhouse offers so much more than what I have listed here. The place definitely merits a second or third visit – just to try the items we didn’t get to this time.

Prices for our meal averaged around $20 - $25 per person, with tip, but not alcohol.
