Grand Bend Beach is generally clean and sandy. Some pollution may occur on windy days but the County monitors water quality daily during the summer. Because of low lake levels, deep water is far from shore. There are change rooms close to the large pay parking lot which fills quickly on holidays. This beach is best enjoyed on weekdays when it is not so busy. Bring an umbrella because there is no shade.
South Beach on the south side of the river is free, but there is very little parking and there are no lifeguards. It is great on weekdays. Nearby there are two lovely art galleries displaying excellent local art. Purdy's Fish restaurant serves deep fried perch right off the fishing boats, and fries with slaw at picnic tables beside the river; great for a quick snack.
