“Basic But Okay”
Reviewed June 7, 2014

We stayed a night in the hotel part of this place and it is okay for the price but on the whole is starting to look old and tired inside.
Saying that though it is still probably the best place to stay in this small town.
Downstairs it has a laundry and restaurant which serves good greasy food at an okay price.
This place has internet but be warned it is by a satellite connection which by and large is so slow it is useless with even sending an email being a challenging job.
However definitely visit the town of Stewart and Hyde as they are great places.

With not a lot of selection it get the job done. Very basic, a bit dated but for the middle of no where it pretty good. A real small town feel which is perfect for the location. Bar downstairs along with restaurant you have most of Stewart under the one roof

One of the most welcoming receptions I've met , a pity the pillow in the motel was the worst I had on this trip. The room was pretty much as I expected for the location, old, small but o.k. A good location and the drive down to Stewart and the visit to the nearby Salmon Glacier extremely worthwhile. One convenience I did the washing in the clean laundry while eating dinner in the restaurant, which served up pretty good tucker.

Small, dark but clean rooms. Basic but acceptable for 2 nights stay. Helpful staff. Restaurant and bar on premises, average. Close to shops, restaurants/ cafes and Hyder in Alaska. Stays open in winter

This is not a review of the hotel itself, we never stayed in the hotel we just went to the restaurant.

This was the restaurant we went to on our first night in Stewart. We each ordered the King Crab, and I was pretty disappointed with the portion size. The crab leg was obviously from a very large crab, but it was just one leg. For the 50 dollars we paid for the plate, it was not worth it in my opinion. We did receive a salad and vegetables and fries with it, but when you are paying that price for a meal you come to expect a little more for the actual 'main' dish that you are paying for. I was pretty disappointed. My husband had visited a year prior and said that the portion sizes were much more reasonable and that the food has gone downhill since he had last visited. My kids enjoyed their meals though, so that was nice. The server was very nice and the food did come quickly.

On a fishing & touring visit to the Stewart / Hyder area we stayed at the King Edward Motel (across the street from the hotel) part of the time, and in the Rainey Creek campground nearby the rest of the time. The room was pretty utilitarian, but comfortable and clean. The bathroom was large enough, though not roomy. The kitchenette was well stocked with pots & pans as well as dishes. The best part was the full sized refrigerator with freezer, which meant we could get our catch home before it spoiled. (As an aside - there is nowhere we found that sells dry ice in the area!) The price was pretty high, but as there isn't much competition, it could have been worse. All in all, we were happy with the place.

I had a chance to take a look into the kitchen and my god, it is a dirty run down place and the meals are way overpriced for such a cheap Mickey Mouse outfit. The owners are very unfriendly and rude, kinda very cheap people and only focused on money but no service. The rooms are primitive, the view is unforgetable (straight onto a dirty parking-lot) and the wireless internet is !!THE!! nightmare. For eating: Only 1 block down the road (across the visitor centre) is a concession truck, way cleaner, cheaper and better to eat there.

Room Tip: Just dont go there, way too expensive for what you get.
