“A Room With A View in Mallaig....”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2014 via mobile

I stayed here along with my wife and our 2 year old on a two night stay. It was our first time to Mallaig. This is a perfect place to stay as couples or as a family. Booking was a pleasure and real easy, communication from Heather was fast and helpful.
Arrival was excellent, private parking and a very pleasant welcome from Heather.
Very clean and spacious room, we stayed in the en suite room and if we return we would try the other room as the main bathroom looks ace!
Our room was clean and cosy and the en suite was great very clean too. What a view from the room, sea views to Skye and also you can see the train station too, a room with a view indeed.
Breakfast is amazing made fresh by Heather and in the main kitchen on the huge dining table. This was a nice time to catch up with Heather and she gave out great local advice on where to visit. Heather was also great with our son which was greatly appreciated.
Great stay, sad to leave. We will return!
Cracking area too, the harbour is a hive of activity. We ate both nights in the Steam Inn, great food!
Book this bed and breakfast, you will not be disappointed. Recommended!

We stayed for one night after riding the Jacobite Steam Train from Ft William. We had decided to travel on to Skye and wanted to take the ferry from Mallaig but needed somewhere to stay for the night. After looking at the reviews on this site we tried contacting a couple of the B&B's as it was a late booking. Heather responded almost immediately and was extremely helpful and had a room available for us (2 adults + teenager). When we arrived Heather was incredibly welcoming and the room was impeccable, as was the lovely private bathroom. The beds were wonderfully comfortable, the decor was tasteful and modern and there was wifi (to post all the stunning pictures of the surrounding area), water, whisky, caramel wafers, tea and coffee. It really was a wrench to get up and head off to catch the ferry the next morning, however before we left we had a lovely Scottish breakfast cooked by Heather who was a wonderful host, genuinely interested in how she could improve her service.

I would absolutely recommend Ashdale for anyone wanting to stay in the Mallaig area.

We came here as part of a train journey and a wonderful stay. The rooms are well furnished, spotlessly clean and we had a lovely view over Skye and the islands. Mallaig is not very big an it is a 5 minute walk from the station.
Heather, the owner, could not do enough for us. She helped organise our stay and even ran us over to the beach where they filmed 'Local Hero' (a beautiful spot).

We stayed here for one night for a weekend away, taking the West Highland line up from Glasgow.
When we arrived, Heather was a friendly face to welcome us after our journey. Throughout our stay, she was the most wonderful hostess we could wish for and the loveliest person there can be in the hospitality business. She has got the balance just right by being so welcoming, helpful and not in the least bit intrusive.
Our room was superb - we had the back room with an adjacent private bathroom. The furnishings were to the highest standard: both tasteful and traditional. The bed was ever so comfortable, with a particularly nice mattress and soft duvet. The large fitted wardrobe offers lots of space and inside are cosy dressing gowns, tea and coffee facilities, a bottle of water as well as a little decanter of whisky. Such extra touches are really heartwarming and made us feel at home.
The bathroom was huge with a lovely freestanding bath along with a large shower cubicle. It has been fitted out beautifully and even has a heated floor. The accommodation is spotlessly clean with such high attention to detail.
In the morning, Heather let us know that breakfast was ready and we were shown to her kitchen table for a fantastic start to the day. We both opted for the cooked breakfast, which consisted of a perfect fried egg, a sausage, two rashers of bacon, black pudding, a tattie scone, a tomato and a ramekin of baked beans. It was all so scrumptious! In addition, there were croissants and toast, as well as orange juice and our choice of a pot of tea or coffee. This beats a hotel breakfast any day.
As we were heading to Skye for the day before heading back to Glasgow, Heather was most obliging in keeping our bags for us to collect later on. Her passion to ensure her guests' needs are fulfilled really shines through.
Thank you very much, Heather, for a really memorable stay. We can't wait to come back.

Stayed 1 night on 9th June. Travelled from on train from Edinburgh using Scotrail over 55 ticket - £19 return. We had booked Ashdale after reading reviews on Tripadvisor.
On arrival we were made very welcome by Heather and felt at home. We had booked the front rom which has a breathtaking view across to Skye, Rhum and Eigg. Tea making facility and a small decanter of whisky in the room. The full cooked breakfast in the morning served in the kitchen set us up for the day ahead. Would recommend the Ashdale to anyone looking for a quality B & B.

Stayed in this gem of a B&B for just 1 night but would have liked to stay longer. Heather was a very caring host going that extra bit to make her guests feel welcome. Ashdale was booked for the following night so we had to stay in another B&B. Heather very kindly took our cases there for us while we were out on a boat trip. Nothing was too much trouble for her. Would certainly recommend.

Room Tip: We stayed in the room at the front with fantastic views out to the islands.

took Mum on West Highland Line recently and we stayed for one night in the Ashdale B&B. Nice welcome, tea making facilities in the room - and a wee decanter of whisky! We were hungry so owner suggested lunch at the Clachan pub which was perfect and very friendly. We had a lovely sea view and a pleasant breakfast cooked and served in the kitchen. Comfortable night's sleep and good ensuite shower. Mallaig is a friendly little port.

Room Tip: ask for a room with sea view
