Thoroughly impressed with my stay at Heatherlea.
Stayed in the twin room with my Mum. A few may find it a bit small but I was made aware of this and the fact it does not benefit from sea views. This should not put anybody off as I am well used to West of Scotland weather and understand the sea views can generally be quite grey!
The guest lounge was great and comfortable, with Sky TV, an excellent recliner and a toasty wood burner. Even though it was the start of September, it was a welcome touch on the slightly stormy Saturday evening. Breakfast in the morning was perfect and freshly cooked to order as you'd expect.
The hosts, Nick and Lindsay, were very welcoming and perfectly chatty; making you feel just at home (exactly what a B&B should do!). With Lindsay hailing from Mallaig, she has great local knowledge and seemed to have a genuine affection for the area.
I suggest travelling up by train, as the West Highland Line is the most scenic in the world and to stay at Heatherlea. It is about 1 mile out of Mallaig but that means it is perfectly quiet and you can have a beautiful walk up to Loch an Nostarie before breakfast.
I will be visiting Mallaig again at some point and would be delighted to stay at Heatherlea on my return.

Room Tip: The two double rooms benefit from a sea view. The twin is at the rear with a view of the garden and...

Stayed in the area specifically so we could visit some sights from the film "Local Hero". Nick is an expert on the subject, and was able to direct us to some spots off the beaten path. Be sure to check out beautiful Camusdarach Beach, where good old Ben Knox had his shack in the movie.

Room was nicely decorated and spotless. Twin beds were comfortable with nice pillows. Bathroom was small but totally functional. Our room at the back (the smallest and also least expensive) did not have a view of the sea, but the panoramic view westward from the breakfast room and lounge was spectacular.

Nick and Lindsay were charming hosts.

One suggestion: partially frosted window on bathroom door didn't allow for complete privacy. Would like a curtain there.

Room Tip: Two front rooms are larger and have great views. Back twin room is smaller, but is also less expens...

We stayed one night in this bed and breakfast in August 2012. We chose this bed and breakfast as all the reviews on Tripadvisor were excellent. Our stay in this place confirmed the reviews we had previously seen.
We had the room number 1, located at the end of the corridor. The room had two windows with a wonderful view. The bathroom was very clean and spacious. The bed was also really comfortable.
The hosts were adorable and very welcoming. They suggested that we took a walk to Loch An Nostarie that was 15-minutes walk from the bed and breakfast. The walk was really pleasant with a wonderful view on the lake, among animals like pigs and sheep.
The Scottish breakfast we had was complete and delicious. From the patio we could enjoy the views of the islands of Rum and Eig.
We did not have any car but the bed and breakfast was ideally located (maximum 20-minutes walk from the Mallaig port).
We definitely recommend this place.

We needed a night's B&B before taking the Skye ferry and Heatherlea proved to be ideal for our purposes. Nick met us at the station off the Glasgow - Mallaig train (and that's a 'must' train journey for any traveller to Scotland), and took us back to the B&B up a track, and overlooking the sea. Fresh, smart, clean rooms, lovely breakfast (with veggie options). A 15 minute walk into Mallaig for a wonderful evening meal of fresh haddock and chips at the Farmer's Market, and back, with not a midge in sight! In the morning, we also managed to get in a 20 minute stroll up to the nearby loch before getting another lift for the ferry (more thanks!). See the dramatic view from our window ...

Stayed here in July 2012 while on honeymoon.

One of these B&Bs that doesn't really do anything massively out of the ordinary ... it just does it all "as it should be"...

FANTASTIC view
Secluded - fairly separate from other houses
Warm and genuine welcome - and very friendly and helpful communication before arrival
Easy to find from main road
Beautiful room (room 1) - very bright and spacious (two windows), and since it was at the end of a corridor it gave the impression of being slightly separate from the rest of the house.
Very comfy bed
Good shower
Large shower room
Good breakfast in a very pleasant room (with a beautiful painting of Mallaig above the fireplace!)
Plenty of maps and leaflets etc for info.
Nice big car park
A great host - lots of local knowledge, plenty stories and a good handle on what is happening in the area, but also gives you the space to just get on with your holiday.
Very reasonable price.
Wifi: I think it was BT Fon access and was a bit intermittent in our room (but didn't bother us).
About a mile's walk to pubs etc in Mallaig.

Room Tip: Room 1 - bright and spacious and gives the illusion of being far away from the rest of the building.

We stayed here after a day of climning Ben Nevis, on our way to Skye. The rooms have beutiful views and that alone is enough to cover the cost of the room. They also have Digital Tvs in every room and downstairs there was a guest lounge. Breakfast was good and the couple went as far as getting more ingredients for breakfast due to one of us having special dietary requirements. If we were to stay in Mallaig again we would definitely return here. Our only complaint was not the fault of the owners- there are notes in the rooms to switch off the extractor fans in the bathroom when they are not in use - the people next to us unfortunately failed to follow this advice!
