This was a charming little b&b that was perfect for our early morning ferry to Armadale. We arrived early after a day hiking and enjoying the beautiful weather. It was only our second day in Scotland, but we were exhausted. I'm disappointed that we were a bit antisocial and didn't get to speak more with our hosts, because they were so lovely! We had an early night and an early morning, but Nick prepared a flawless breakfast that gave us plenty of time to get out and enjoy our day. Thank you to both for a lovely stay. On our next trip to Skye, we will definitely return here before we catch the ferry!

We did a driving tour of Scotland in June 2011 and had planned on staying in Skye but this village really took our fancy. After checking a few b&bs we found heather lea which is just under a mile outside the village. Its in a great location, the hosts were fantastic and even the dogs were friendly!! I would definitely recommend it!

We stayed here back in August 2011 (it's just taken me a while to write this review) for one night and it was wonderful. Very reasonably priced and the hosts were lovely and welcoming. Stunning location and very clean room. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to visit Mallaig!

We had a lovely stay at Heatherlea. We only stayed one night but would love to return for longer. its a lovely setting. you look out of one window in the bedroom and see the sea and from the other window, hills and sheep and a couple of happy pigs. This is a real quality place to stay, clean and comfy. A very nice breakfast with proper table cloth etc. Its about a mile from Mallaig and we were picked up. We walked in over the hills back into Mallaig past a very nice loch in the afternoon which took a couple of hours and the walk back on the road took about 15mins. This is probably the nicest B&B I've stayed in. My only suggestion is some rugs on the wooden floor in the bedroom would be nice.

This is a beautiful guesthouse in a truly beautiful part of Scotland. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The hosts are friendly, gracious and welcoming.
These points alone make Heatherlea a fine example of an excellent guesthouse but its the little things that make it outstanding.
The place is spotless. The bedding and towels are snow white and the bathroom gleams.
The breakfast tableclothes are freshly laundered with sharp ironed creases.
The salt and pepper cruets have been polished before they are laid on the table and when Nick comes to take your breakfast order his black apron is clean and ironed.
Little things that just add the finishing touches that you always hope to find but seldom do!
If you are looking for accommodation in the Mallaig area - don't choose anywhere else - we most certainly won't

We booked into the Heatherlea B&B as we were catching the morning ferry from Mallaig to Armadale.
Nick was very quick and prompt at replying to emails and the booking was made swiftly.
Unfortunately we arrived at the B&B around 11:30pm and had to be out by 8am so we didn't get to spend much time in this lovely accommodation.
We got stuck in traffic on the way and phoned to let Nick & Lynsey know we would be arriving later than expected, which they said they were fine with.
Nick had sent me detailed directions so we could find the B&B from the main road, but our sat nav was pointing in the correct location as well, just 30 secs off the main road.
Nick came out to meet us and took us for a quick tour around the B&B before showing us our room. A lovely clean double room with light wood furniture, a comfy bed, TV, coffee facilities and en suite.
Needless to say we went straight to sleep on arrival. The showers in the morning were hot and powerful, though I was awoken by the other guests showering, but as we were all getting up for the same ferry, this wasn't a problem.
Breakfast was in the lounge/dining area and was a lovely start to the day. Usual selection of hot drinks, juices, cereals, yoghurts, fruit and cooked breakfast.
Just a note that payment is in cash, we forgot about this and had to take a detour into Fort William on the way to get cash!
All in all a lovely B&B with friendly owners. We will be back when we're next in the area.

It was obvious that we were welcome at Heatherlea from the moment of meeting Lynsey and Nick on arrival. Our room and ensuite were spotlessly clean, modern and comfortable with TV and coffee/ tea and biscuits ready to refresh us after we had walked the beautiful old coast road from Arisaig. There was also a large comfortable lounge (looking out to sea) for guests. The house is wonderfully and peacefully situated just above the junction were the old and new road divide as they approach Mallaig. The advice not to take the car is good advice, it is but 15 mins comfortable walk along the 'high road' into Mallaig to stimulate an appetite to eat at one of the many places serving good food at reasonable prices. Afterwards an after dinner return on the 'low' road just above the shore is likely to take more time, not because it is any greater distance, but because it runs above the shore with views out to the Small Isles and Skye. The perfect place to relax after a journey however one travels.
