“Good local seafood overlooking harbor”
Reviewed September 1, 2012

Good choice of local specialities prepared in both simple and creative ways. Prices not especially cheap, but the quality was excellent. Many of the main courses are also available in smaller starter size versions, enabling a more budget-oriented meal.

“Fresh fish, friendly service”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

Restaurant overlooking the harbour recommended by our B&B. A bit pricey at the top end of the seafood menu for us, so we went for the fish (haddock) and chips at around £9. It tasted delicious, was fresh - caught that morning we were told, well prepared and perfectly cooked. And the Cranachan - which we'd never tasted before - was to die for. £43 for two incl. drinks (cider). And the service was friendly, which after quality food makes for a recommendation to others.

“Awesome Non Pretentious Sea Food Restaurant!”
Reviewed August 15, 2012

Quality Sea Food in a very understated non pretentious restaurant! Just as it should be. We ordered the platter for 2 and we were not disappointed!!! At £55 it was a little self indulgent but absolutely woth it! Very nice, great service. Do not expect glam and glitter! Just great sea food!

“Really, really good!”
Reviewed August 14, 2012

We asked a local resident where was good to eat and took his advice. However we found neither the staff or the menu particularily appealing we left and saw this one - thank goodness!

We went into the Fishmarket at about 12.00, just about the time they opened. We knew that the steam train arrived at 12.30 so decided to eat early. The staff were delightful, a real credit to the establishment. The menu quite varied with a good specials board. As the name suggests the focus is on fish but there are alternatives. My husband had the haddock, really fresh and very well cooked, came with chips and a nicely dressed salad. I opted for the scampi (don't eat fried food at home so enjoy it when I'm out) which was some of he best I've had. Again served with chips and salad. Tartare sauce was brought to the table with a jug of iced water. They only serve house wine by the glass but had none so offered a glass from a more expensive bottle at the same price.

No room for pudding but have to say that selection was varied.

Can I just say that if you're not travelling on the steam train then try to get in before 12.15. If you are on the train then make a beeline to this restaurant as it was full by 12.35!

There is also a coffee shop upstairs which seemed to have plenty of customers.

I congratulate the owners on their little gem.

“Second choice but the best!”
Reviewed August 11, 2012

Visited The Fishmarket Restaurant after having walked out of an other restaurant having waited nearly 15 minutes for someone to take any sort of order - drink or food. There was no table available but were asked to wait 10 mins. The location was fine - seated at a table for 6 but shared with a couple from Australia which made for a nice time chatting whilst enjoying our meals. The food was very good and the portions were very generous - tthe Cullen Skink was a meal in itself and in fact the two of us shared it. The main courses were excellent. We would recommend this resaurant to anybody who enjoys seafood.
