Steam Inn made my trip to Scotland complete. Lovely Staff and atmosphere. At weekends they have live bands and when we were there, the actual owner taught me how to dance Ceildgh. This was absolutely one of my best Scottish experiences. GO THERE! Unfortunately we didn't have our dinner there, so i cant say anything about the food, but if they put as much love in the food as they do in the bar, the food must be awesome as well.

We arrived here after a beautifully scenic Jacobite steam train journey from Fort William. It was a very cold dull day with the occasional bright spell but on arrival, we were greeted by driving rain. Fortunately we landed in the Steam Inn, located centrally on the main street close by the railway station and other customers kindly moved around to make some seating space for us! There is no doubt that the Mallaig businesses are well geared up for the steam train arrivals and the Steam Inn is no exception to this.
My elderly mum was in a wheel chair and access to the pub was OK as it is on two levels, one to the main bar and one to the adjacent restaurant area. Staff were very busy and you place your order and pay at the bar but service was very good given the sudden influx of customers. We ordered scampi, steak and ale pie and burger and despite a delay caused by a mix up in the orders, were served in generous portions and were very tasty. The bar area was buzzing with locals and visitors alike and the atmosphere was lively and warm and friendly.
Prices were very reasonable for both drinks and food and it was well worth the visit. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the place :)

not many options... but whatever they serve.. tastes good :)
Sea food platter is quite good. Well presented and staff is friendly.
Reservation is recommended, but this place has more seats than other around Mallaig.

My wife and I had lunch in the Steam Inn today and were very impressed. We ate in the bar because we had our dog with us & liked the atmosphere of this local pub. The food was really excellent, the portion size generous and the staff were friendly & attentive. On top of all that you also get a coal fire & free wifi. We have frequented a few of the local hostelries & this was by far the best.

Walked in after peeping into the other choices. This is a Real place. Fishermen grousing at the bar over pints of Tennants, families in the next room, the bartender also serving as waiter and cashier. Perfect! Sat next to the overly warm coal fire (wow, that can put out some heat) and quickly gulped down a bottle of Black Cuillin. Fish and chips arrived soon after. More than either of us could eat - probably should have split one order. Very pleasant staff, at least the one that we could see, despite how busy he was.
