“Great place to stay”

Great Hotel to stay for Aberdeen. Room large and comfortably furnished. Breakfast very good and we had dinner in the hotel all 3 nights of our stay because the food was so great and plentiful. All the staff were fantastic and helpful (even got a recipe for Cullen skink). We caught the train to Aberdeen which is a better option than taking your car into the city. Thank you everyone for a great stay in UK

After reading the various TripAdvisor reviews, all of which were essentially positive and laudatory, we were quite disappointed.

This review is difficult to write because we found the staff to be very gracious and desirous to assist us, and to make our 4 night stay an enjoyable occasion.

Aside from the positive point attributed to the personnel, the following negatives are preponderant:
Accommodation: there is no reception area, and the entry at the rear of the building is immediately in front of a stairway, with no indication as to where the hotel really is. An unmarked door to the pub area on the left, and a dining area is on the right.

Our room, No. 3, was spacious with a comfortable 4 poster king bed which was very difficult to make owing to the size and weight of the mattress and the form of the bed frame.
The closet is more suitable to the needs of a child and not for 2 adults with baggage for a 4 night stay.
There was no light above the bathroom sink.
The bathtub/shower did not drain properly.
The overhead chandelier in the bedroom had 5 light bulbs, 2 of which did not work.

Other bedrooms which we visited varied in size and quality, in some there were no clothes hanging facilities, in another a closet without clothes hangars.

In general, the quality of the hotel does not in any way correspond to the description of "beautifully refurbished luxury bedrooms" contained in the hotel's website.

Cuisine: while some of the dishes, notably the Caesar Salad the Prawn and Melon Salad, were quite good, the other dishes were average/mediocre (over-cooked steak, a risotto which was in name only, a homemade lasagne, while tasty, gave the impression of having been initially over-cooked and subsequently reheated in the microwave).
The breakfasts were of poor quality, with the eggs invariably over-cooked and the toast cold, save for one time.

Conclusion: I regret that I cannot recommend this hotel/restaurant.

I stayed for just 1 night, it was a nice experience! The area surrounding is stunning.
The room was large & clean with all the normal amenities.
I would stay here again, the food was good & staff helpful.

What a brilliant place to go for lunch.

They have a lovely selection of food, both light options and full blown meals.

They also have Gluten Free and vegetarian options available. Not just one option like most restaurants which is refreshing to see. There were a few starters, a good few mains and also puddings available GF. I am not used to being spoilt for choice!

They have lunch time deals Mon-Fri so we indulged in 2 courses for £9.95 which is just superb as mains alone would have been £10-12 each.

The only thing I would mention is the lack of atmosphere. It would be nice to have some soft music in the background especially if it is not very busy.

We will definitely be back!

Excellent!
A nearly 300 year old Manse preserving its character. Lovley refurbishment. Friendly and great staff, last but not least, excellent food. We had to leave very early in the morning (before breakfast) but the staff supplied us with a propper lunchbox before leaving.
We wished we could stay another night.
Perfect choice close to the airport in Aberdeen.
Just enjoy, the locals do too!!

Room Tip: You should give them a call to check room availability. It is quite popular and we were staying ther...

I have been here some years ago and was impressed with this 8 room hotel and its excellent meals. I called there again and found that the standard of friendliness and good quality was better if anything. It was obvious that everyone else in the place were enjoying themselves as much as we were.

An old Manse now hotel. Well run by friendly staff. Lovely garden , well suited to children. Rooms large and very clean. Hotel obviously popular with the locals as pub and restauarnt. Food very good . Large portions and a fine choice. Kemnay a well maintained quiet village / small town. Very convenient for Dyce airport if you want a country location out of Aberdeen not far to drive if you have an early plane or if you arrive late evening .
