“Excellent Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2011

The Bennachie Lodge is just finishing a major internal revamp. Its already very good and will be excellent when finished. Nice atmosphere, welcoming staff, well appointed rooms and a good menu in the restaurant. Only minor niggle was a gurgling radiator in the bathroom - the plumber was actually already in the building before I mentioned it !

I can only echo the comments below about the poor impression created by the public areas and the lack of a reception. I'd suggest that this becomes a priority for the next stage of refurbishment! I've stayed here twice in a 12m period and nothing has changed. The car park side of the hotel isn't very inviting either.

Having said all that, the refurbished room I stayed in was clean and pleasant with a comfortable bed and a nice view of the gardens at the rear. Although it was above the bar, I heard no noise. Indeed, sleep quality was excellent in this quiet location. Not too far from Aberdeen if you're driving in.

The best thing about Bennachie Lodge is the food. The evening meals are excellent. The cooked breakfast is very good too and is brought fresh to the table.

This is a very nice little hotel but I did not like the fact you have to go into the bar for check in. As previous reviews it is being refurbed. When the stairs and breakfast area are done I am sure it will be wonderful. The room was big and very nicelly set out. The floor was slopping into the middle from all directions but that is not unusual for an old building. The staff very friendly and efficient. The breakfast was delivered fast but need a wee bit more practice to get a soft poached egg. Very happy with one night stay.

Room Tip: Would use again

Slightly shabby (mid refurbishment), but very comfortable, and extremely helpful staff.
For example; went to get some Earl Grey tea-bags for my room, and was offered some fresh milk to take back to my room as well.
Free, unlimited wifi, comfortable bed, effectively light-blocking curtains, good sized bath, good breakfast, etc.
I will definitely be recommending this to my colleagues as the first hotel to look at when visiting Aberdeen for business in the future.

Stayed here with business. Outside of Aberdeen in the country which suits me. The food in th bar was first class. The fish (I selected medium) was huge! Can't imagine what a large is like! The female staff were very friendly and nothing was too much for you which was very refreshing attitude from larger hotels with grumpy employees. The bedroom was fine, newly refurbished so what you would expect. The hallways as other reviewers have stated are pretty shabby and due for a lick of paint. The reception doesn't exist which had me confused. Breakfast was substantial and prompt. I was more than slightly irritated that the waiter didn't asked me what I wanted for my cooked breakfast but brought me the full whack which wasn't what I wanted! The bathroom was a bit pokey though the shower was the suitable only for dwarfs! It is tiny. All in all I liked the hotel and will be back. For the price I think it is very good value.

Just spent a couple of days here and been very impressed, booked online, very easy, staff very welcoming but entrance & stairs rather dingy - refurbishment programme hasn't reached there yet!!! Plans for another 7 bedrooms and function suite for weddings etc . I'd love to see it when finished. Excellent room, we'd the four poster, large with double window, but only 1 chair in the room, asked for another and it was quickly brought up. bed very comfortable and large bathroom with shower over the bath & nice toiletries. Room warm &quiet. Breakfast was excellent, lovely choice and all cooked to order, sorry we didn't eat there for dinner we had plans with friends in the area for a celebration. We would definitely stay here again. WiFi was great.. We visited Crathes Castle & Haddo House while in the area and would recommend both for their gardens and "Castles" with lovely tearooms, especially Haddo House for all the home baking!!!
