What a gem! It's hard to say what our favorite aspect of the Kildrummy Castle Hotel was: the best high tea I have ever had in the lovely drawing room looking out over the runis of Kildrummy Castle, having a wee dram in the bar, the dark paneling and crackling fire in the main hall, the fabulous French inspired dinner, our big, comfortable room, the gorgeous setting, the friendly and incredibly helpul service...We can't wait to go back and plan a trip around a stay at this one of a kind hotel.

This is an absolutely lovely building in a stunning setting in one of the most beautiful places in the world. The building itself has a wonderful atmosphere much closer to a (rather grand) home than anything else. it has recently been reopened by two French ladies Mother and Daughter, and they clearly know what they are doing as well as being very engaging personally. all the staff are really nice and extremely enthusiastic about the place. The food is nice, unexceptional and good value but, in my opinion, not up to the standard that we had expected in that environment. The decor of some of the rooms is a little more up to date than some of the others but all are entirely acceptable and some are really good. You will enjoy staying here and you will be comprehensively looked after. If you get a glimmer of a chance go and look at the gardens, which are a separate enterprise run by a trust, and are absolutely stunning.

Room Tip: We stayed in The old Lairds room and it is huge. The bed was extremely comfortable and also huge. Th...

Great accommodations and amenities like wifi and tv service. The food was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is unusual in that the furnishings are very lavish in the public area and look to be restored to around the early 1900's. The views are spectacular if you like Scottish country side and a nice garden and castle ruins are right next door.

On arrival we couldn't believe the beauty of the scenery and setting. If everything was this good we would be onto a winner.
We weren't disappointed. The welcome from the staff on our arrival was great and made you feel very welcome. Check-in was quick and easy and in no time we were shown up to our room. Again we were pleasantly impressed with the room which was decorated in keeping with the period of the building.
We headed down to enjoy our evening meal and enjoy it we did. I can't remember when I tasted food quite so exquisite , tasty , mouth watering , infact I would be here all day trying to describe the experience.
We returned to our room and had the best nights sleep away from home on a fantastic four poster bed.
Breakfast was great in the morning along with a good claik with the staff.
We are already planning a return visit in the near future along with some friends.

For an unforgettable experience give it a try........ it won't disappoint.

We had dinner for 5 in Aug. 2012. This is my second or third visit and it is now under new operators with a French background. All the Scottish staples are there as entrees, and there are lighter more continental fare as well. Food quality was high, and nicely prepared. Service is very good, but their style here is that your meal will take at least 2 hours, so be patient. The formal dining room is surrounded by other hotel parlors and the bar where you are first escorted to enjoy you pre-dinner apertif. The hotel decor is high-Victoriana, and the men's restroom includes urinals large enough to accommodate elephants. Kildrummy Hotel is in the countryside, and worth the visit but someone in your party needs to be a designated driver, as the roads are narrow, winding, and they drive on the left. generally your dinner timing will not allow a ruins visit, so that will be a trip back.

This was our first visit to what from the outside is a very beautiul building. Inside however imagine Faulty Towers. On arrival into the building there is no suggestion as to where the reception is, luckily however someone appeared out of a doorway and directed me to the correct place. Unfortunately it went downhill from then on. We had booked a deluxe room at a cost of £135 as quoted at the time of booking and also on the hotel website. The room we were shown to although clean was nowhere near deluxe without even a shower. The balcony for the room would have been beautiful if not strewn with discarded cigarette butts - as neither of us smoke we thought this pretty revolting. We tried to find someone to question about the room but the staff were all busy in the restaurant. As we had a table booked at 8pm for a meal in the hotel restaurant we decided to question the room after the meal. We were finally shown to our table for our meal at 9.30pm after being offered canapes in the bar followed by complimentary drinks because of the delay. The starter was pleasant enough but then we waited nearly 40 minutes for our main course - at one point all of the 10 tables that had guests on, were waiting on food to arrive. The main course - duck breast was again pleasant but 1 piece of potato and 3 tiny carrots does not constitutue vegetable accompaniments. My husband had the salmon but again little in the way of vegetables with it. We finally finished desert at 11.30pm and gave up on being offered tea or coffee. We asked what time breakfast was served in the morning as we had to leave at 8am and apparently 7.45am was the earliest possible so we decided to skip breakfast. We were too exhausted by this time to query the room. At 8am we tried to check out - no one was around. After much searching we found a chambermaid who said she would find someone to help - 15 minutes later we were finally able to check out. When we queried the room( with I believe the owner?) we were told it was a standard room and the deluxe room is over £200 not the price we were quoted of £135, we explained that is what was advertised on their website at £135 but she said she didn't deal with it and she didnt understand our problem. We had no time to argue as we were already late and as we left we were given croissants to take with us as we had not had breakfast. Would we go back - doubtful. This could be such a fantastic hotel in a great location but the owners need to seriously look at customer service.

My husband and I have been visiting this hotel for a number of years. We understand that the hotel has only recently reopened under new ownership but unfortunately it is not up to the standard we expected from this beautiful hotel. When we first visited, under the ownership of Mr Hannah, it was superb. Then under the next owners it was mostly the same but not quite there. This time it was a disappointment. it was our wedding anniversary and we had a table booked for 8pm but we were not seated until 9pm. We had been invited for drinks after our meal but the service was so poor we didn't make it. The menu is unusual and it was difficult to choose a starter, which, when it arrived was okay. The main I had was steak which I found to be tasteless and did not have any accompaniments such as vegetables. We waited so long for our deserts that we nearly gave up. After clearing our plates, we waited to be asked by the staff, if we would like tea/coffee which used to happen as a matter of course and then we would move into the drawing room to enjoy and relax with petit fours etc but we waited so long that we left the table and just went into the bar. My husband and I had to leave so we never did get any tea or coffee. During all of this, Fiona the Assistant Manager, was the only one who knew what she was doing and I felt sorry for her. We know how diligent she is but she is unable to do everything herself. The other staff seemed to be very nervous and unsure. The owner was sitting chatting to a couple of guests and didn't seem to be aware of all of this. We won't be back again sadly unless it improves drastically. What a shame. Everything is on the doorstep for this Hotel but it needs owners who are prepared to work hard and look after their customers. Not our impression sadly.
