Just picked this b&b as in the area for business.. what a fantastic surprise! Eugene and Geraldine are the perfect hosts and made me feel at home. I cant fault anything, the room was absolutely a gem and the breakfast cooked by Geraldine is a great start for the day. Will definitely go back either for business or leisure!!

It’s a Mid-Ulster Nights Dream!

When quite by chance I first happened upon this dream of a guest house, I was instantly impressed by Eugene and Gerardine’s warm welcome, and their readiness to share their local knowledge. I didn’t hesitate to extend my stay here from that one night to six.
The Laurel turned out to be an ideal location for travel to Belfast, Londonderry and many places in between, assisted greatly by hearty breakfasts, directions and extremely helpful advice from Mine Hosts!
When I returned the following month with my wife she too was taken by our very friendly reception, the comfortable room, excellent facilities and interesting and tasteful decor in the Laurel. Nobody then could fail to be impressed by the attention to detail, of the period furniture, artwork and literary presentations.
This is indeed a dream location for family history and business trips, offering a truly enjoyable and comfortable stay. We look forward to regular visits in the future.

A very special place were a very warm welcome awaits you. First class accommodation with every room decorated with excellent taste and with lovely attention to every small detail. The breakfast was superb and Gerardines homemade soda and wheaten bread was irresistible. Eugene and Gerardine are the perftect hosts and you feel like part of the family rather than guests, nothing is too much bother. I cannot wait to return and am recommending it to all my family and friends.

We found Laurel Villa after recomendation from another B&B.which we had planned to stay in but was already booked.
What a discovery. The house is so interesting with it's links to Seamus Heaney, Victorian interior and overall ambiance. Our room was spacious and comfortable and very well equipped. A substantial breakfast was the perfect start to the day and served in lovely surroundings on hot plates accompanied by a good pot of tea , freely topped up. Eugene and Gerardine had a great knowledge about the area and places of interest and were a mine of information.
Overall I would say it offers excellent value for money and is one of the best bed and breafast accommodations Iwe have stayed in .

The place has the charms of the area and is centered right in the middle of Northern Ireland . We traveled to Antirm Coast, londonderry, Bellfast and all the surrounding areas with ease. The rooms are clean and all have their own bathroom. Geradrine and Eugene are absolutely the best hosts we've ever come accross in our travels. They MADE our stay in Northern Ireland a pleasure. I will stay there again in the future! I have been too many B&B's and this was tops!

Our family happened upon the Laurel Villa Townhouse while traveling to see long-lost relatives in County Derry, Northern Ireland. We were treated to the best stay that we experienced during our 3 weeks' travel throughout Ireland. Laurel Villa's rooms are comfortable, spotless, and impeccably decorated. The rooms featured large beds, powerful showers, and plenty of current reading material. The common areas are extremely interesting. Modern art work hangs alongside poems of Seamus Heaney, printed on Irish linen and letterpress. (Heaney, a Nobel-prize Literature winner, was born in 1939 at Mossbawn, a farmhouse outside Castledawson, just three miles from Laurel Villa.) We spent hours reading all the poems and taking in the art. The morning's breakfast was perfect. The fresh fruit was a welcome addition to the traditional Irish breakfast, which was expertly prepared. To top it off, the proprietors, Eugene and Gerardine Kielt, are incredibly gracious and helpful. Eugene prepared a hand-drawn map that allowed us to locate our relatives -- who live on a farm outside of Magherafelt , on a narrow, winding road -- with ease. The map was perfect and our visit was amazing. In addition, Eugene, a Blue-Badge guide who is available for Seamus-Heaney themed area tours, willingly shared his knowledge of the area's history and Heaney's poetry with us. At bottom, this is an exceptional, high-quality B&B that we hope to visit again soon.

  • Liked — The hosts' assistance. The impeccably decorated, common areas and rooms.
  • Disliked — Leaving it.

I can't emphasise how special this place is. My wife and myself have stayed there on small breaks when we have visited Magherafelt. We always received a big welcome from Eugene and Gerardine and were always sorry to have to leave. The accommodation is excellent and very homely and the food to die for. Magherafelt and surrounding areas have loads to offer the traveller and Eugene will only too pleased to answer all of you questions on what is on offer. As Schwarzeneggar said in The Terminator, "Ill be back" and so will you if you decide to stay there.
