Upon entering this establishment, the server behind the bar had a 'surly, sarcastic' attitude, even before we sat down to eat. We had a meal here, prepared to give it a 'go' - despite mixed local reviews. The steaks - in fact - all the meat was as tough as old boots. The server said after we complained "Well, I wouldn't give it to my dog, but there y'go!" (Now I know why we were virtually the only ones eating in the place). As we left, we passed the cook coming in from outside with a fag in hand, who said ' No-one else has complained. I check the meals myself and they were all very good!!" She glared with a look in her eyes 'don't even go there...!!' We will never visit again.

An excellent pub well located for a relaxed lunch when enjoying a local walk around Holmfirth/Scholes/Hepworth - and there are many circular walks in the area. We had the special 2 course lunch for an amazing £5.90 plus drinks - excellent local beers.
A great welcome and friendly service. Will go again for lunch or evening meal as soon as we can!

We had a great, cheeky Yorkshire welcome. The pub, and the rooms, have been 'boutiqued' but there's still plenty of original feature charm - our room had wonderful original floorboards, and uncluttered styling. There was only a small bar of soap and no shampoo. Food was homemade, nicely done, and delicious, except the mousse pudding, which let things down a bit. Breakfast was really excellent.

We wanted to stay in Holmfirth on the weekend of 12/13th May, not realising that it was the Folk Festival that weekend. We ended up staying in Jackson Bridge, at the White Horse Inn. I didn't know about the 'summer Wine' connection until after I had booked it and the pub does not trade too heavily on this connection. Having said that, a character who resembled Brian Wilde was holding forth at the bar when we checked in...

After a friendly greeting from the landlord, we set off for Holmfirth. It is just over 1.5 miles up through Scholes and down into the town centre and took about 25 minutes on foot. Buses run from the pub's front door every 30 mins according to the landlord and, on a less sunny day, we would have taken this option.

We returned late in the evening (again on foot) and were welcomed at the bar, where we settled amongst the regulars for a couple of nice real ales. Our room was large, with a very comfortable double bed. Like the rest of the pub, it was very clean and recently decorated. After an very good night's sleep (with no noise at all from the road or bar), we re-entered the pub for breakfast. A very decent full-English was consumed, with tea and some extra coffee afterwards. Despite being back on duty after a late night, the landlord was again friendly and informative and this finished our stay very nicely.

I think that we would stay here again rather than trying to find somewhere central in Holmfirth because it is likely to be much quieter and probably cheaper.

Room Tip: Rooms 4 and 5, just to the right of the main building may be a little quieter than rooms above the b...

Great location, very clean newly decorated room and friendly hosts.
We arrived late Sunday afternoon looking forward to a meal in the pub that evening but were very disappointed when we were told that they do not do food on a Sunday evening! After a long drive we didn't want to get back in the car to search for a restaurant.
We were also told that the shower may trip out and to let them know if it did!
Breakfast would be between 7 and 8 which seemed a little early to us but it was explained to us it was really their day off and they were very busy.
The breakfast was OK but there was no marmalade or jam to go with the toast as they had just used the last of it themselves ? It seems we must have caught them at a bad time? Disappointing considering reviews and website details.

We arrived on a busy Friday evening, but nothing was too much trouble. Sarah showed us to our room. Spacious, clean & very comfortable with spotless en-suite.
The White horse is very popular with locals & Friday night is fish & chip night-definately worth staying for-great meal & service at a great price. The bar is warm & welcoming with lovely log fires.Breakfast in the bar was a great start to the day, plentiful, tasty,& served very quickly. We'd managed to pick up a slow puncture on the way here, but Sarah pointed us to Muslin Hall garage,on the way into Holmfirth.A huge thumbs up to Steve & his lads who had it sorted in no time !
Holmfirth is a little gem,we walked miles & enjoyed all the 'Summer Wine' sights. If you're a big reader, don't miss Daisy Lane books, just around the corner from Sids Cafe !
We did briefly consider venturing out for a meal elsewhere on Saturday evening, but the lure of the great atmosphere & food at the White Horse ensured we stayed & enjoyed another great evening.
The White Horse is a lovely old building, fondly remembered by any 'summer Wine' fan,but it has been carefully refurbished to offer all it's charm with 21st century comfort. Sarah & David work very hard & offer a welcome second to none to both locals & visitor alike. We were sad to head for home & heartily recommend a stay here to anyone ! We hope to be back soon. Many thanks for a great escape weekend.

We arrived early Saturday evening, at a particularly busy time with service in full flow, and received a very friendly welcome by David. We decided to stay and eat - influenced by the open fires and the warm and friendly atmosphere- rather than venture into the cold to search for an alternative eatery. Very pleased we did - the food was very good. Our room (with ensuite)was very clean and 'uncluttered', the bed was cosy, and the breakfast was exceptionally well cooked and presented. I understand that the pub was recently refurbished - tastefully decorated, as was the bedroom. Sarah pointed us in the direction of some good local walks after breakfast, the pub is surrounded by some lovely hills, and hamlets, and we enjoyed a 6 mile walk before leaving for home. Hairdryer, TV, and teatray in our room. Will certainly return if in this area again.
