Old Stoney Bank Guest House
Ranked #9 of 12 Holmfirth B&B and Inns

It would be very difficult to imagine a better B & B experience than this. Anne and her husband, Ian, provide the right balance of professionalism and friendliness - she very chatty and extrovert, he much quieter but with a warm laid-back approach. Anne had to rush off while we were there due to a family illness but Ian coped with total calm and warmth while she was away. Rooms and food are excellent but the definite highspot is the wonderful 8 acre rambling garden.

I am glad you enjoyed the garden, 10 years of work finally seem to be paying off! We are continuing to improve it and the fishing pond is wonderful at this time of year.

Old Stoney Bank is a very elegantly restored and spacious stone house sat on the south side of a wooded valley on a quiet lane, just outside New Mill. Anne and Ian were excellent hosts and both the house and our room were very comfortable, while also being beautifully and tastefully decorated. I wanted to swap our Harrogate home for here but my wife wouldn't let me!
Anne is happy to accommodate children and pets, which is unusual for such a beautiful home and the couple are particularly family friendly, as evidenced in their attention to a young family who were fellow guests.
The immediately surrounding valley is very attractive, a car is definitely advisable given the rural location and distance from the nearest railway stations, although you could manage with public transport and taxis alone if necessary.

Excellent B&B with traditional english hospitality. Well decorated rooms combining modern facilities with traditional and antique furnishings. The Main House is 16th century in parts with a large 'secret garden' at the back and below falling down to a large pond. Remarkable breakfast with fresh fruits, cereals and choice of cooked items delivered to the table personally by host Anne, a lady with an eye for detail and consideration to her guests. Ideal place for a couple or for a party of up to 10 people. 20 mins walk or a cheap taxi ride into Holmfirth. We will go back again and again. Thanks for a great weekend - John T

We were taking our eldest son back to Huddersfield Uni after the Easter break and decided on the spur of the moment that we'd like to stay over as it was promising to be such a lovely weekend. Despite it being a last minute booking our hosts, Anne and Ian made us feel most welcome and our labrador, Meg was allowed to stay too.
Our younger son slept on the floor at the Halls whilst hubby and I slept comfortably in a beautiful super-king bed. Our room was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean and although our room wasn't en-suite we had exclusive use of a wonderful bathroom with bathrobes and toiletries provided.
Although we had freeview television in our room we were welcome to use the big lounge where we found plenty of reading material also. Breakfast was whatever we wanted it to be it seemed. There was a platter of fresh of fresh fruit on our table and we could help ourselves to a selection of cereals or yoghurts. Tea, coffee, juice, full English breakfast, toast and homemade jams – all served in their charming sunny dining hall – lovely.
Old Stoney Bank is set within beautiful gardens in a quite location only a mile or so out of Holmfirth and within easy reach of Huddersfield, Sheffield and stunning countryside with plenty to see and do.
We only had a very short stay this time but expect we'll be back. (Our son still has another 3 years at Uni!)
Only one drawback – no Orange mobile network signal inside the house!
