“Fantastic break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 22, 2014

Had a fantastic midweek break here on the booze and snooze. Room was superb and lovely views. Meal was delicious. Staff were really friendly. Peaceful and tranquil. Good walks short drive away- try dovestone resevoir. We will be back.

Me and my other half have been up to the huntsman many times before for the booze and snooze offers in the past after reading new reviews we were A little put off as it's always been fabulous when we've been, but keeping an open mind we checked in and was given room 12 which was new to us, spotless and cosy as always, only fault tv had no signal but we didn't really need it anyway, lovely selection of drinks on the bar and we had a 3 course meal too which was beautiful cheesecake to die for, house rose was a real highlight ( we ended up having 2 bottles ) service was spot on as always. Thanks for having us

My wife and I stayed on the "Dine and Unwind" which was a raffle prize. The young lady who served us at the bar and served our evening meal was a delight. Her level of service and personal attention was superb. We will definitely return and the current price of £117 is a bargain. The room was very comfortable and the full english breakfast excellent, I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to have a relaxing evening, great food and a great choice of beers and wines.

Room Tip: Go for Room 6 if given a choice

Stayed over night a group of 10 five couples the staff were lovely nothing was too much trouble the rooms were lovely and clean the evening meal and breakfast was fantastic. I had read some earlier reviews so went with an open mind but to be honest I could not fault this place we had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were on the dine and unwind and went round Holmfirth in the afternoon and returned for a meal in the evening and drinks and will be returning hopefully very soon. The staff were all lovely and sociable and nothing was too much trouble. The evening went far too quickly and we wished that we had been there when the bar was open a little longer that is my only niggle for the bar to stop open until at least 12. But a great stay thank you,

Room Tip: stayed in room 13 was lovely

Had tried to get into this Inn several times before but was always fully booked (must be fantastic!). Its a little out of the way, you need a car to get into holmfirth from the Inn. The room was lovely, very clean, good quality beds. Bathroom quite spaceous and was also very clean. There was shower gel, hand wash and shampoo supplied in large containers, not your usual little one use bottles, these were good quality. Lovely selection of tea, coffee and Cadbury hot chocolate, although some decaff coffee would be great for those of us who cannot tolerate "proper coffee". There was a lovely selection of biscuits in the room too. Plenty of space to hang your clothes. The rooms were very very warm, we stayed there last night and there was a little snow and lots of rain, but never got under the covers, it was that warm. We went down to the bar to have lunch, the same person who was checking people in, was also serving behind the bar, so you had to wait a while, food was ok, hot sandwiches. The guy also turned out to be our waiter, so was bar man, waiter and receptionist at the same time. At evening meal we were quite disappointed to find there wasn't one chicken dish on the menu, so i found it quite difficult to find something to eat. My husband chose the duck, but half way through it had to take a quite large piece of sharp clear plastic out of his mouth. I informed the waiter who then took it into the chef and came back to say "no problem, sorry about that, it is only a piece of plastic that has probably come from one of the containers that we keep our sauces in, I'm very sorry". Oh fine is that all, good job he didn't choke on it. Nothing to do after meal so sat in room. Sleep should have been fantastic as we were in the middle of nowhere and it should have been quite, but the air con comes on continually all through the night and sounds like really bad gale force wind. There was also a green light over the door to the room which highlighted the fire exit but this shone in my eyes most of the night. Breakfast was lovely, selection of yogurts, cereals and crossants followed by cooked breakfast. Unfortunately trying to check out was timely, as the poor waitress that was dealing with all the breakfast guests on her own, also had to run the reception. I think this place needs a few more staff. We stayed on the dine and wine £99. So not bad at all.

Dine & Unwind for £99 in January seemed too good to be true. Sadly it was. I booked for a midwinter treat weeks ago in December. We turned up to find that we could not eat until 8.30pm in the restaurant because the manager gave preference to whoever walked in - whether or not they booked in. The room was good, comfortable bed and great shower but we had to have all the room lights on or all the room lights off (including the bedside lights!). By the time we ate the limited vegetarian menu became even more limited as the starter we selected had run out. On check out we discovered that the bill included a more expensive wine than the house wine we ordered. The manager seemed to have no idea of how to follow through on the attractive package marketed. The restaurant staff, however, were friendly, welcoming and efficient.

This hotel looks lovely and is in a great location for visiting Holmfirth, however, there are a few improvements to be made. First, our room was on the ground floor, it was a disabled room with all amenities expected. We didn't request a disabled room but we didn't mind either way until we had a shower, the shower was powerful enough but because it was a wet room, the water covered all over the large bathroom and wasn't draining away properly. After a couple of hours the floor in the bathroom was still wet and I had to use a towel to dry it as much as I could. You couldn't use the toilet without getting wet feet. I reported this to the reception on departure.

Also, the fixing's on the mirror were lose and the mirror came off the wall when my husband was wiping it due to condensation from the shower. He caught it just in time, we also reported this.

Finally, the cold tap wouldn't turn off, the washer had obviously gone so we had the tap constantly running (not dripping).

Although these are small problems, they are issues that should have been fixed before letting the room out.

We had a lovely meal in the restaurant but the wait was too long, which was a shame because the food and breakfast was exceptional.

Like I said, this could be a great hotel but the little things have let it down.

Room Tip: If you are not disabled ask for a room upstairs for the lovely view.
