“Decent Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2013

Stayed for the night in may and was a bit worried because of the bad reviews but had no problems. The room was clean with a nice powerful shower and a comfy bed, had dinner as well which was really good value, most meals being two for £10. The staff were friendly and helpful would definitely visit again.

Arrived at the property with a colleague just before 8am hoping to leave luggage and check in later in the day. The front door was firmly locked with no sign of life and only the helpful cabbie who told us to 'head round the back' provided the opportunity for us to locate a staff member. You would think they would have a sign somewhere?
The lovely woman running the office was incredibly helpful and allowed us to leave our bags in a safe spot for the day. We checked in after 5pm and she was again very helpful. She had a staff member carry my very heavy suitcase to my room which was greatly appreciated.
I stayed in Room 9 which is on the third floor (up a few very rabbit-warren like staircases) and situated directly above the High St. Not great in the middle of a heat-wave where the only form of ventilation in the room is to leave the window open and there is a noise bar across the street and drunken revellers making their way home in the very early hours of the morning.
Internet access was excellent (free) as the WAP was directly outside my room. A colleague staying in Room 2 had poor wifi.
Room 9 was very small for a double with a tiny bathroom, and an uncomfortable bed but was adequate for one night only.
This hotel is very dated - downstairs is very 1950s in décor. A little creepy but beggars can't be choosers - there was little else going in the way of accommodation this particular week. That said - I clearly didn't do my research very well as the RelaxxInn website charged me 99 pounds for a double room. Our work hosts in Godalming were horrified and said it should have been no more than 60 pounds!

Room Tip: Room 9 has excellent wifi but is incredibly noisy above the High St. Room 2 had poor wifi but was n...

Avoid at all costs.
I stayed here at the beginning of July. Although I booked through a booking website the hotel refused to accept their price. The hotel is is symptomatic of one that is extremely poorly managed and as a result I would avoid all Relaxx Inzz (or however they spell their name?). The entrance and the whole hotel needs a deep clean and paint job.
My room was thick with a greasy dust across all the fitments. Cigarette ends in the beer garden were left for days (probably weeks) and breakfast dishes were not cleaned away after sittings. Quite why anyone finds this standard acceptable is beyond me. The first night I was kept awake until 2 by people in the beer garden. I stayed at The Talbot in Ripley cheaper and it was fabulous. Great rooms, great breakfast. There is no excuse for hotels of this standard but still they get away with it. I did try to leave a day early but was told they have a 72hour cancellation policy. Customer service is non existent from this manager.
Oh and to top it all they played Gary Glitter music at breakfast. . enough said.
I here The Swan is much better but cannot say from experience.

Room Tip: I hear The Swan is good (in Godalming) and I would vouch for The Talbot in Ripley. It's a diffe...

My husband and I stayed here in May and wished we hadn't. The first hurdle was the car park they advertised which only held about 6 cars so we had to find a pay and display car park up the road. On entering the building, there was a greasy, fatty smell and no-one to greet us. The room was very small which is fine for one night but it hadn't been cleaned properly for weeks (see photos of dust on surfaces). The staff were quite unhelpful and unfriendly and the hotel was overpriced at £85. Would we return? No.

The staff were very helpful - couldn't do enough to help us. Although the car park is small you have to remember this is an old coaching inn right in the middle of Godalming. Having said that there is a public car park 100 yards away which is free at times over the weekend and payment is reasonable at other times. Rooms were very good, and ensuites well appointed. Breakfast was brilliant. Thank you to everyone who helped.

A one night stay for a nearby event. A 10 minute walk from the railway station and easy to find. Check-in was efficient, friendly and they were helpful with directions. My single room overlooking the High Street wasn't big (single bed) but had what I needed. Kettle with tea, coffee and biscuits, free in room wi-fi, a clean modern bathroom with a decent shower (no bath), clean linen, hairdryer, toiletries, tv. Breakfast was served from 8.30am until 10am. Help yourself filter coffee, tea, juices, cereals and yoghurts. Hot food cooked to order: choice of full English, bacon or sausage sandwich, poached/fried eggs on brown or white toast, butter, jam etc. For the few hours I spent in the room it did the job perfectly.

2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2013

When i arrived the sat nav plonked me right outside the front door so i nipped in to ask reception where to park. No one was at the messy reception so i found my way to the bar which was crammed with noisy students half of whom were in school uniform so clearly underge. This i didnt mind, what annoyed me was after 10minutes of waiting to be served i was still being ignored because i wasnt waving a £20 like everone else. In the end i gave up and was luckily helped by a nice local named mick who said there are only about 5 spaces so id have to park up the road. He directed me to a car park only one mins walk away but i had to pay so if you chose this hotel make sure you have change on you! I then went to check in and finally after 15 mins of waiting a young guy served me but when i asked to check in rather than ordering a drink he didnt know what to do so passed me to another member of staff who after ignoring me and discussing it with the lad finally then told me to wait in reception. After 5mins waiting there another woman came and checked me in. I handed over £130 cash for two nights but enquired about the sign outside advertising 45a night. Apparently that only applies to one room which is always booked up! I had a small single room i doubt there could have been any smaller so dont see why its so much more expensive. She gave me directions to my room rather than showing it to me and i wasnt offered help with my bags even though i had to go up stairs and through about 5doors. Check out was equally frustrating no one was around and i jut left my key in the end. Breakfast isnt til 8.30 but i had to leave at 8 each day so never got it and wasnt given any other options. Staff were unfriendly and unhelpful. Room was dusty but nicely decorated. If they trained their staff up on customer service and paid a little more attention to detail this could actually be a brilliant hotel as its in a nice place and the building itself is lovely and decorated perfectly. Its only let down by the poor customer care. Easily improved. However at the moment it was not worth the money and i wouldnt stay again unless i saw an under new management sign outside!!
