Beautiful setting. We only popped in for a drink and some cheese. Staff were really friendly and the service was excellent. Felt that for the money we could have had some slightly bigger pieces of cheese.

Stayed at the Stag on the River this week for one night. We didn't eat in the restaurant as we had other plans but the menu and vibe looked good.

The room although small was smart, cosy, clean and ideal for our one night stay. The bathroom was lovely and the bed very comfortable.

The staff were very helpful and couldn't do enough to make us feel at home, and even helped with a few of my random requests including collecting the keys earlier as we would have missed usual check in times.

I would 100% recommend this hotel.

Visited for a pre-booked Sunday roast as we'd stumbled across the pub some weeks earlier when visiting Godalming & had seen the delicious looking food coming out. We were not disappointed, good size portion, freshly cooked and reasonably priced. The service was pretty good considering they were busy. Smart looking pub situated next to the river so in a good location. Would recommend.

We traveled down from Lancashire for the Goodwood Revival and stayed at the Stag on the River Sunday night before a long journey to North Wales the following day. We stayed at the Stag on the River the year before and were really very happy with it and so naturally wanted to return, couldnt get in on the Saturday night but we managed to book a room and have dinner on the Sunday. As last year, we were warmly welcomed by the staff who were just lovely, professional and attentive. Showed to our room which was fabulous old and quirky with character. Same as last year there is a pantry next to the room with fresh milk and water in fridges and plenty of fans should the night be too warm. We had a very nice dinner and retired early. Up early the following morning after a quiet and peaceful sleep to a nice powerful and hot shower, down to a continental breakfast which was everything you need but I do prefer a cooked breakfast which is only available at the weekends, but we were suitably filled washed down with lashings of Earl Gray an early check out of 10am put us on the road north. I would highly recommend the Stag on the River and for Goodwood visitors is only about 25 minutes away. Bustling pub next to the river, great food and vibe, young and professional staff clean, clean, clean - wonderful

The Stag is a very pretty pub, with good service and good food. The main course menu is limited though, could do with a bit more choice. The car park is small, so if it's sunny, get there earlier. Just think it's a bit overpriced for a pub.

Hi Mary,
Sorry that you feel that we are overpriced for a pub and that our menu is limited. Our food is predominantly homemade by talented chefs who are passionate about serving food which is fresh, seasonal and locally sourced where possible. We would rather have a slightly smaller menu and keep our freshly cooked ethos and our food served to a high quality standard.
Happy that you enjoyed your visit and look forward to welcoming you back soon
Ben
