“Witches hat suite one night stay”
Reviewed December 3, 2013

As part of the 2013 Santaland event we spent one night on Saturday 29th November within the witches hat VIP suite room 29 which is located at the far end of the Wookey hole hotel and has views out towards the Wookey hole attraction and the surrounding countryside.

Wookey hole hotel is located adjacent to the main Wookey hole visitors attraction and contains several different grades of accommodation all of which of based around the theme of the Wookey hole witch.

The witches hat suite is the circular two storey room located on the far left hand site of the hotel complex, which contains a toilet / wet area and double bed at first floor level and a sofa bed and tea making facilities at ground floor level.

The concept, construction and theming of the room was faultless although at the time of our visit it did show signs of requiring some routine maintenance to address general wear and tear to walls and doors, whilst the sofa bed appears to have been severally damaged by a previous occupant.

As the hotel was fully booked during our stay breakfast was served in captain Jacks restaurant which is located within the main resort complex and is accessed via a circa 5 minute walk across the car park, although this was not an issue for us it may be an inconvenience during inclement weather or for the elderly.

As part of the Santaland package we sampled the self service continental breakfast which was unlikely to win any awards, but was perfectly adequate..

As part of a visit to Wookey hole or as a stand alone hotel we would have no issues recommending the Wookey hotel hotel

Room Tip: Pay extra for the Witches hat suite.

The Wookey Hole Hotel was the big surprise on my recent trip to Wells and Glastonbury.... Compared to other hotels that I've visited in the area, the Wookey was clean, modern, convenient, friendly, accessible, and affordable. I expected an amusement park and the Wookey does make a special effort to attract families with young children. Still, as a senior citizen, I was comfortable with the Wookey.

My family booked this hotel for 2 nights as we were going to the Wells Carnival and it was local. The hotel was very basic and staff unhelpful. There was no proper lounge/bar to socialise with family. The breakfast was greasy and very salty. On the second morning we had to go across the road for breakfast as the chef could not cope with the number of guests. We asked to have a coffee in the dining area and were told there was coffee in the room. We wanted to sit together for coffee! The hotel was clean and the shower was actually one of the best showers I have used. For a family hotel it was lacking greatly. There were only 2 high chairs and my 7 month old nephew had to sit with us for breakfast. There was no play area for the 7 year old. We will not be visiting this hotel again.

I booked this as part of a groupon deal so it included the entrance to the caves, round of crazy golf and a couple of other extras.
The hotel was clean and spacious and the kids thought it was fabulous.
It was a shame breakfast wasn't in the hotel itself, but served in the building about 5mins walk. This was fine if he weather was ok but on a Sunday morning in the pouring down rain with a 7 year old and a 3 year old it wasn't ideal.
All in all good value for money.

Poor hotel and very noisy! Paper thin walls and overpriced. Breakfast was also overpriced and hotel was not a good standard. Would not stay here again. Better off staying in a premier inn as in a very isolated spot. Rooms were scruffy and needed a refurbish

The hotel is very new, the rooms are very modern and comfortable, TV & DVD player with plenty of storage and a nice bathroom. Couple if things with the room, the heating wasn't brilliant it was either to hot or really cold, no happy medium. The second bed in the room is a sofa bed and was quite uncomfortable, yet I have never slept on a comfortable one being 6"2. There were no extra pillows available in the hotel due to it being fully booked and ask for a bath mat on arrival, all of us slipped at some point in the shower, the little one went over.

Bar area is nice, good little selection of draught, bottles, spirits and wine. The reception and cleaning staff were so friendly it was brilliant. The breakfast was good, you have to pay an extra £2 for the full English, but it was very nice. We had the carvery one night and it was very good too, the Irish chef was keeping the queue entertained and making sure you had everything you wanted.

All in all a lovely hotel and would happily stay here again. I maybe over critical of the room, but these are the issues we found, personal experience. Yet the hotel staff were overly helpful and if there was anything they could have done they would.....
