“Great Food! Super Atmosphere!”
Reviewed April 24, 2014

Delicious food, beautifully presented. Warm atmosphere and friendly staff! It seemed a little pricey but was not disappointed by the quality or quantity of the food. Kept going back!

“So good we booked for another night.”
Reviewed April 23, 2014 via mobile

While staying over at Easter we booked in for meal. The menus a lite expensive but the food and beer is top notch. The ace has a real nice feel to it. Had the chicken then couldn't resist a desert. My wife had the fish and chips which comes a close 2nd to the Wenslydale heifer at a slightly lower price. We then booked again a few days later with some friends and wasn't disappointed again.

“Charmingly chaotic but delicious food and service.”
Reviewed April 23, 2014

When we stayed in the Dales we rented a self catering cottage (Sweet Pea Cottage: highly recommended, see my review) but once in a while we didn't feel like cooking. After some wandering about the town of Leyburn we chanced upon the Sandpiper Inn. I had read some good reviews about it but because of our impromptu visit we weren't hoping for a free table on such short notice. Luck was on our side as the owner/chef managed to secure us a table.
There was a bit of a chaotic atmosphere because the waitress had just arrived due to a roster misunderstanding. She hit the ground running and after some to-ing and fro-ing everybody got what they ordered at the bar. Speaking of which: I am a whisky enthousiast and The Sandpiper Inn has a lovely range on offer at very reasonable prices.
We were ushered to our table and our food arrived shortly thereafter. So promptly even that we hadn't had the chance to order our wine.
My wife ordered pressed lamb with dauphinoise potatoes, my kid had the Gourmet Rib burger and I had breast of duck with duck fat potatoes and winter veggies. The lamb as well as the duck were cooked perfectly and my kid said it was the best burger he ever had. The portions were adequate but not royal, so we had some room left for dessert: ice cream and almond tart.
All in all very good bistro style food, service was cordial but due to the young staf a bit erratic but nothing dramatic. It added to the charm. The dining area was tastefully decorated and there was, if a bit loudly, music playing.
The Sandpiper Inn offers charming atmosphere, good service and above all, good food. Not quite up to any conceivable Michelin standard but the prices reflect that: with apéritifs, two glasses of wine, water, main course and dessert, tea and a beautiful Laphroaig Quarter Cask afterwards we had to leave about 85£ behind for the three of us which is pretty darn reasonable.
very much recommeded!
