“We loved it”
Reviewed March 6, 2013

When we arrived on a Sunday afternoon we could not believe how busy Helmsley was. The Feathers (being right in the market place) was easy to find and the staff were very helpful in guiding us to secure parking. The hotel was equally busy providing lunches for non-residents and the whole place was buzzing with excitement. The atmosphere was friendly and enjoyable. Despite the rush downstairs our room was quiet, clean and welcoming. Not a single noise throughout the night. The next morning it was hard to believe we were in the same town. The market place was deserted and very few people were about. The breakfast was perfect and we could not have enjoyed our stay more. Thankyou, the Feathers...

I've stayed at the hotel on several occasions, and also just dropped by for lunch or dinner.

Quintessentially English country pub in an achingly beautiful village in stunning countryside. The rooms are clean, warm (important) with ample wardrobe space, the staff always happy to help and always greet you with a smile.

The restaurant is not just comparable to many so-called fine dining places, it's better, much better. Local bacon, eggs and sausages for breakfast, even ham egg and chips is served with 5 slices of thick cut Yorkshire ham, and 2 fresh eggs. Too much even for a greedy girl like me!!

If you're in the neighbourhood, don't drive on by, drop in!

Stayed here with friends for a weekend break.
We had rooms 11 & 12 & both were fine, beds comfy, rooms always nice & warm which was good as it was freezing all weekend. Lots of choice for breakfast, massive full breakfast , served till 10 so we could have a lie in.
All staff were friendly & helpful.
We had evening meals here both nights & quality & quantity was both good.
We visited all the pubs around the square & the feathers was the busiest & most atmospheric of them.

This is our second time here & we will hopefully be back in the future.
Might try it in the summer for a change.

Room Tip: Stayed in 11 & 12. Second floor & view over the market square.

we stopped here the week before christmas,( 6 plus a baby) on the chance for a meal. They had 180 coming in later but were not phased. they arranged a table plus high chair.

We ordered our meal and in no time we were served with a lovely hot meal. I opted for the jumbo fish and chips, and jumbo it was, fabulous but too much for me ( my eyes have always been bigger than my belly)

Every one was local and friendly and it made a lovely start to our holiday break.
My husband & I revisited it again later in the week as the food was so good. typical of a northern pub. certainly would advise any one to try.

Warm welcome from the lady on reception who was very helpful throughout our stay. Nice homeley feel to the place. Room (17) was nicely decorated, lovely bathroom, comfey beds, spacious cupboard to hang suits up in - we weren't missing anything. Nice breakfast, lovely localy sourced bacon and sausages - chef needs to just double check fried eggs for 'gloopiness' on top but a minor gripe for an otherwise lovely breakfast. one other small word of feedback -domestic staff (who were very smart in appearance) just need to check chrome taps etc in bathroom after wiping down as lots of marks left behind from cloth which made it look unclean but we knew it was from the clothes - would recommend using astonish shower/tile cleaner - leaves no streaks!! :). All-in-all compared to other options available localy this was a good choice that fell more within our budget than other accommodation in the area.
