“Not Your Usual Chippy - Better Than Expected!!”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

We visited Scott's of Helmsley recently whilst passing through on a lovely sunny day.
As most people, we are not new to Fish and Chip restaurants, but we were pleasantly surprised at this one.
We arrived and were lucky enough to secure one of the outside tables (it was a warm day and we had a dog with us). We were immediately greeted by the freindly waitress, who proceeded to find some water for the dog and then guide us through the menu and the ordering process.
We ordered and were served our food really quickly (again with the staff making a fuss of the dog) and when we were finished, we were not made to feel that they wanted our coveted outside table back immediatley, even though we were being eyed up by jealous passers by!
The food was great - definitely an upmarket chip shop, but not overpriced.
The restaurant itself was nicely appointed, has clearly had some money spent on it and is in a beuatiful little market towm - what more could you want?
Did I mention that the staff were great?!

Hi Robin,
Sounds like you had a great time. Quality, at value prices, served with a friendly smile is what we aim for. With a few outdoor tables, it is great for dogs and they are welcome. A water bowl available and especially on sunny days, even chilly sunny days.
We are thinking about having a dogs photo gallery on Facebook? What do you think?
Hope to welcome you back soon.
Regards
Tony

“Definitely on our radar!!!”
Reviewed October 14, 2013 via mobile

What a lovely little find, we haven't had such great fish & chips in a long, long time. They were cooked to perfection, batter light and crispy, fish white and fresh. Clean modern, friendly restaurant, definitely on our radar and we will be going back!!!

Hello and thanks for the great comments,
Glad we're on your radar, why not make Scotts a favourite 'setting' to ensure you come back time after time. Hartlepool is not that far away.
All fish is cooked to order and we aim to provide great quality, at value prices, all served with a big smile. Come back soon. Regard Tony

“Excellent Fish”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

Visited again on Saturday. Previously used Scotts for take away food, this time decided to eat in as we had a baby with us. The staff were incredibly accommodating to provide space for our buggy. The quality of the fish and the batter are exceptional and the portions are more than generous. Too many chips for me but not a real problem. The curry sauce made the chips addictive as I couldn't stop dipping them in! Will definitely visit again, although I prefer to use the take away side, but thank you!

“Below Average”
Reviewed October 1, 2013

The fish and chips themselves were ok, but we popped in knowing we didn't have much time left in Helmsley so thought a fish and chip restaurant would be ideal for our time frame. However, when we walked into the restaurant, the attendant wasn't exactly approachable, and we were left waiting for over ten minutes when the restaurant was far from full, and found that instead of 'dealing with something' for a few minutes, the waitress was in fact just standing idly at the door instead of taking our order. She failed to apologise when we left to go to the takeaway side next door, where the service wasn't exactly speedy either. At least in a greasy chippy you usually get served quickly. Their incompetence however did save us a considerable amount of money, as haddock and chips in the restaurant was a staggering £12 each, where as in the takeaway it was only £6!

“NOT THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS IVE HAD”
Reviewed September 30, 2013

having stopped at Helmsley on the way back to our rentedholiday cottage we ended up in Scotts and we found it not to be the usual Fish and Chips cafes that you find in seaside resorts........I found the seats rather uncomfortable.... but we were approached very quickly by a nice friendly member of staff who bought us a menu.....to be honest we were shocked at the cost of fish and chips.......nearly double what we pay back home in Bridlington..when the food came, again by a friendly member of staff we found the texture of the fish excellant but for my taste the batter needed more seasoning....but i am afraid the chips were a different story they had definatly been kept warm for a long time,,they were not cooked fresh.....or they were bought in and heated up they were not the normal chips you get in a "chippy"........we get lot better fish and chips in Bridlington at half the cost and I would not return or recommend,,

Hello and thanks for taking time to provide your review,
We were surprised and disappointed at your comments, particularly as your comments are out of line and at odds with many others on Trip Advisor and out of line with what we try and achieve.
I am not a visitor to Bridlington, nor are we a seaside location, so cannot comment on that. We have looked at prices in Whitby, and they range from very cheap to very expensive. In comparison to those prices, we are at a mid range point. Thanks anyway. Tony
