Go for room 44, for large bed and is very quiet, also handy for rear car park.
Food fantastically excellent and well priced, good portions. Sublime cheese trolley. Drinks pricey.
Moot point...Newspapers are an additional extra. Staff most helpful and friendly.

Had a one night stay and a meal in the restaurant. The food looked amazing and tasted superb. The bar was relaxed with an excellent range of drinks on offer. All in all our stay was under £300 with all drinks bed, breakfast and evening meal. Great value, will stay again.

Just returned from an overnight stay on Dinner,Bed and Breakfast offer. Well, where do I start, from the first contact on the telephone to make the reservation to checking out, the whole experience has been trouble free, orchestrated with military precision and delivered with the accuracy of a sniper.
We celebrated my wife's birthday, what a treat we were blessed with. Chocolates on the bed on arrival along with a birthday wish from all the staff. The room, (room 1 ) was well appointed and of a good size. huge bed, lovely and warm, molten and brown toiletries in the bathroom. Only drawback was the bath is a little on the small size for a 6ft 2 inch fella, but that won't stop us revisiting again.
Food was out of this world, we chose the daily dinner menu, excellent variety of choice, tasted sublime. Best food we've ever tasted. this chef is destined for a Michelin star without a doubt.
can't wait to enjoy this gastronomic delights in the near future. Breakfast was equally as good,we chose to be lazy and requested this in our room. It arrived bang on the time we requested, piping hot and beautiful in flavour. Wonderful way to end a special occasion, ready to send us on our merry way home full of high spirits and fully recharged.
A massive thank you to all the staff, with special mentions to the member of staff on reception at check in (sorry didn't catch your name), Steven in the bar on the evening, James on reception at night and also during reservation booking & finally Peter in the restaurant. You all made our visit special. Last but not least, all the chefs in the kitchen, especially Paul for his flair and innovations. Your Michelin will be with you soon.

Room Tip: Can only comment on room 1, but would imagine the rest are all as nice.

My wife and I went for afternoon tea at the black swan we were given a very warm welcome by Alison the tea room manager . We were delighted with the open fire and cosy atmosphere. We were offered a wide range of teas and coffees and the sandwiches and cakes were explained to us . The food is all home made , when it arrived it was served on a proper cake stand and was of good quality. We enjoyed both the selection of sandwiches and cakes and warm scones, with jam and cream. There was so much food that Alison asked that if we wanted to take it home. On departure it was boxes ready for us to take. We would recommend it to our friends for a special treat. We will definitely visit again when we are in the area.

Room Tip: ask at reception for a free parking permit so you can park outside the hotel.

We love this hotel and return every year. The rooms are lovely and well appointed and the social areas are relaxing; the beautiful sofas and log fires are great after a satisfying meal whilst enjoying some refreshments. The Cygnet bar had new artwork and decor since we stayed prior. The only differences were on the service side, we ordered a newspaper and one never arrived :( We had a reservation for dinner and arrived half an hour or so before to have drinks in the Cygnet; we announced ourselves to the waiter who brought our drinks & left us menus; after just I've 3/4 hour since we arrived, no staff had taken out order; we asked the waiter who 'checked' for us; we were then attended to nearly 1/2 an hour after our booking. I must say that this is uncharacteristic of the hotel and they were quite busy. Dinner was quite slow too but as we love it here so much this didn't at all stop us enjoying delightful drinks; stunning food and total chill out. I recommend the 'chocolate' dessert and the sirloin/cheek of beef with pearl barley. Super delicious. A really fab little hotel that we will be returning to again.

We've visited this hotel to stay or just to eat. Excellent for Sunday lunches - usually go for the beef with all the additions. Pleasant staff, though many are second language English nowadays. There's a lovely lady who plays the piano for Sunday lunch too. Try to get post-meal tea and coffee by the fire in the sitting room. A great place to doze off after a meal!
