We booked our mini-moon at Feversham Arms because we didn't want to travel too far after our wedding (lucky as if we had we would have got stuck in the volcano fall-out!) and wanted a complete rest. We were not disappointed. Having requested a double ended bath on booking, and realising we didn't have one when we saw our room, we were quickly moved to another room which actually involved an upgrade. After that our stay was perfect. The room service breakfast, hospitality tray for tea and coffee in the room, amazing restaurant and spa and pool made it a totally memorable mini-moon. Along with a huge number of places to visit within walking distance (Dumcombe Park, Riveaulx Abbey and Terrace, Helmsley Castle) you couldn't pick a nicer hotel.

Our weekend at the Feversham Arms was a christmas present and it was a truly magical experience. On arrival we were relieved of our car and luggage and shown the facilities.By the time we were shown our room the cases had arrived and everything was explained to us(how to order your early morning tea/coffee,TV,CD,DVD operation). The staff made us feel extremely welcome and their knowledge of the local area was faultless(ie the best pub to go to and enjoy the late afternoon sunshine-cheers Chris, the daffodil walk in Ferndale-cheers Catherine, the wine list -cheers Ian).My only dissappointment was having to leave. It's not the cheapest of hotels but you get what you pay for and this was quality of service ,food and friendliness that you will find difficult to beat,we will be back...Debbie and Andrew room 3

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at the Feversham Arms, to celebrate my husbands birthday. The suite we had under the eaves, with its own log fire was relaxing and charming , an hour n the bath with the complimentary candles, insence and bubbles was just what a harrassed Mum of two needed to relax. The food was amazing and the wine list extensive. The staff were helpful, friendly and attentive and always had a friendly good morning when delivering the complimentary room service breakfast, with extra bacon for my husband. The spa and pool were delightful too, outside swimming in april was not originally on the plan! I would recomed one of the character room, ours room 19 was very quiet as it had its owm stair case. I also loved the turn down service that also cleaned the bathroom and replaced the towels! We will be back as soon as we can find a baby sitter for the kids, its too good to waste on them!

My wife and I had a recent one night stay at this hotel, along with friends, and found everything to be excellent. We were upgraded ( because the hotel was quiet midweek?) and had a lovely room. Switching the TV and music systems on and off was quite a challenge but we eventually mastered it! The room was spacious and comfortable.
We had the taster menu, with wines, in the snug part of the restaurant in the evening ( the main section was not used as it was so quiet) and it was excellent, although quite expensive.
The breakfast was also first class, with a buffet style continental breakfast on display, and waitress service for any cooked items required. We could not fault this.
The staff were all extremely helpful and pleasant throughout the hotel..
We did not have an opportunity to use the Spa, due to our short stay, but it looked to be very good, when we had a quick tour.
The underground car park was ideal in the snowy weather and although work was going on it did not inconvenience us in any way.
On our previous visits to Helmsley we had stayed in the Black Swan and felt that the Faversham Arms was better if somewhat more expensive.
Helmsley is also a very nice village with excellent shops. It is good to visit clothes shops which are not part of a chain.
We would recommend both this hotel and Helmsley and would be happy to return in the future.

Just returned from the Feversham Arms and just loved every minute. We booked a standard room as that was the only double room available at the time when I tried to book about a month ago. I was very disappointed with the room as it felt rather claustrophobic and the bath was very dated but we managed to get moved into one of the fabulous spa suites. This was truly awesome and when I return I shall try and book one of those. The staff were absolutely charming and helpful, cannot fault any of the staff. The reception staff were particularly helpful. I had massages and facials in the Verbena Spa which were superb. This is a great place for a chill out. We stayed dinner, bed and breakfast and loved the early morning tea and papers delivered to your room at your requested time. I could not fault this hotel and I`m a very fussy well seasoned traveller. I`ll be back soon.

Stayed for 2 nights just after xmas and did have a lovely time. The restaurant and bar are characterful and cosy, we had a dinner bnb package which we wouldnt normally do as we prefer to eat out but it was a deal they had on and we couldnt fault any of the food inc breakfast, it was all excellent, and excellent service in the resto and bar. We booked a standard room so I knew it wasn't going to be huge and as nicely done and cosy as it was, it was absolutely tiny, as in barely enough room to get round the small double bed, so that really wasn't great. And the bathroom had lovely toiletries and candles etc, nice bath too, but it was an old bathroom with super cheap flooring, needs updating! The room had a good tv, dvd player, magazines, candles, tea and coffee etc, so had some v nice touches. So don't book a standard room is my advice, unless youre not bothered about space. The spa is very nice, didn't use the pool tho it was open and looked steaming even tho outside was freezing with snow everywhere, hot tub was cool, except our first night it wasn't hot at all and when I asked if they could put the temp up they said it had been used loads that day and couldn't do anything about it, which was pretty crap. It was also really difficult to use, and v poorly lit so u couldn't see how to turn the bubbles on, and the spa staff wern't super helpful, that was one problem. I also wanted to book one treatment, any treatment, over our 3 day stay and there was absolutely no availability which again was poor as they obv don't give priority to hotel guests - fair enough I suppose but at least remind me prior to our stay that if we want 2 book something we need to get in quick, that would have helped. Rest of hotel surroundings were v modern and cool, but also cosy, really liked it. Feversham Arms is 2 mins round the corner from the main square in Helmsley so good location, lots of great things to do round here, it was our 2nd stay in Helmsley within 18 months actually cos it's such a lovely part of the world. If you do go to Helmsley you must try and book the gastropub The Star Inn in Harome for lunch/dinner - it's awesome, fab atmos and a 5 min drive away! Do it.

We stayed here on Valentines weekend in one of the Deluxe Suites. In all honesty I have never stayed in a hotel where all the staff were as friendly and welcoming as they were here. Nothing seemed any trouble for them and we would definetly recommned the hotel.

The food was excellent and well portioned. If you are after a pilled up plate with loads of food then you will be disappointed however it you want a good all round dining experience with excellent service, lovely food and a pleasant atmosphere then it is there to be enjoyed. There are some very nice restaurants in Helmsley as well so its worth dining outside the hotel as well.

The room was very comfortable, quiet and the TV was very easy to use. My only comment on the room (29) was that the smoking area was below the bedroom window so it may be noisier in the summer but this is an assumption and not based on actual experience.

All round an excellent hotel with fantastic service which alot of other hotels in this price bracket would do well to learn from as I have stayed in similar places where the staff are very snotty and you feel as if they are doing you a favour...not so here with all the staff pulling together to make the experience a very pleasant one.

The attached Verbena Spa was very well equipped, treatments were well priced and staff very pleasant.

There is no gym at the hotel.
