In a very convenient location close to the town but on the main road.Traffic noise could be a problem in the busy season. Has off road private parking. The B&B is a converted old hotel with an attractive exterior but the interior is rather dated and tired looking including the bedroom/bathroom. We stayed in the superior en suite double room. It is spacious, clean, comfortable but nothing "superior" about it.
It was not particularly welcoming or friendly and the breakfast was fairly standard.
For a good evening meal try the Feather Inn in the main square.

Room Tip: Not worth paying extra for the superior room.

Spacious room, tastefully furnished. Doggie friendly. Efficient and friendly welcome. Check out their website--it does exactly what it says on the tin!

Just returned from a 2 night stay at the Carlton Lodge and have to say it was perfect. The location of Helmsley itself is ideally placed for a host of walks, Carlton Lodge is just a stroll from the market square and a host of pubs (most serving food) and the breakfast not only top quality local produce but perfectly cooked on both days. Of the pubs in the square I must mention The Feathers. On a very busy Saturday night ( the local Hunt Ball was in attendance) they managed to find us a table for 4 and really went the extra mile to help us, they were brilliant. Then the food arrived! Really top quality, perfectly cooked and very reasonably priced. Suffice to say we had a really top quality break and will certainly be back!!

Both our rooms clean, well maintained, and a good size – and certainly warm enough during a very cold spell of weather.
Well-located within easy walking distance of the village of Helmsley, where there are various good places to eat. Off-street parking.
