Crema Coffee Shop in Helmsley was on the weekend itinerary that I had put together to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
Sadly this part of our trip left us disappointed that Crema did not live up to envisaged expectations.
The original intention was to pop in for a coffee on the way home from a weekend in Scarborough...the better half really likes her coffee and with the plaudits on Trip Advisor as a guide,Creme sounded just the job.
Once there we were tempted to have some lunch and whilst the coffee was not considered particularly noteworthy the presented meal looked promising... however as my wife nearly completed her Jacket potato with Prawns she tasted something untoward and had to eject it into her napkin...she had tasted mould and on subsequent inspection of her potato there was mould on it.
The Creme was relatively busy and in fairness to the Creme I took the plate and our displeasure to the staff rather the making a scene.
Whilst the response was very apologetic and am sure sincere, this lapse in food quality had ruined what was to be the final element of a lovely weekend and literally left an unpleasant taste in my wife's mouth and sadly not a welcome experience.
What we found added insult to injury was that the Creme only took £2 of the bill rather then either reducing the bill by the actual meal cost or what we felt would have been most appropriate was to not charge for any of the meal.We did not make a fuss at the time again not wishing to make a scene....however on reflection we do feel these negative comments needed to be said.
One would hope that the Creme takes note of above and treats future customers who may be unlucky in a better manner.
