“Lovely spot to recharge the batteries”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2012

We have stayed at The Wheatsheaf previously. Each time we arrive we are greeted like family, yes the pub is an old building and you have to accept that a certain amount of updating may be required, this has to be difficult to time as the pub is so busy. We have stayed in both the old and new parts and we have always been more than satisfied with the rooms. The food is terrific and plentiful, and the new waiter Matthew has a lovely manner and the way he bows to you having served your food is wonderful, a nice genuine little touch. Breakfasts are always top drawer. Staff always warm and friendly especially little Olivia and Henry. Well done everyone at The Wheatshef, keep up the good work!

Broke up our journey home from Scotland in the Wheatsheaf and were very glad we did.
A friendly welcome, then a basic, but clean and comfortable, room. Although it did get a bit noisy later on, with connecting doors slamming and some loud voices.
The beer and food in the bar is of high quality and great value.
And the location is great with plenty of car parking and great views.
Hawes and Hardraw Force are not far away and well worth the visit.
We'll be back.

Arrived to be greeted by friendly staff and shown straight to my single room. Quite small, but cosy enough with flat screen tv, tea/coffee making, small wardrode and small but functional shower-room with toilet & basin. Bed a bit on the soft side for my liking. Had a meal downstairs in the pub in the evening. Decided on an early night though could hear people talking in the pub downstairs. Not a problem for me, though it possibly could be if the pub was busier than it was. I thought the menu was a bit limited but the food was ok and there was plenty of it. Breakfast in the morning was very good. Carperby is less than a mile from Aysgarth - there's a pleasant walk through a few fields & small wood to The Falls. All in all a pleasant enough stay, especially for the price.

A pleasant experience. Located in a relatively quiet and peaceful area between Leyburn and Hawes. Great value, after searching for a place to stay for August Bank Holiday Monday! A warm welcome, comfortable bed(s) , modern shower unit, and a quiet evening's sleep. Full english breakfast provided. The bonus is the location...ideal for exploring the dales , with Bolton Castle and Aysgarth Falls nearby...and endless walking/hiking opportunities.

Things didn't get off to the best of starts when we called the hotel whilst en-route to check what time the kitchen closed and were advised that food service stopped at 8.30pm on a Friday evening. Luckily we were able to find a nearby pub and have dinner there.
Were pleasantly greeted by the landlady and shown to our room which was quite old fashioned and had a few cobwebs in the corners of the rooms. The bathroom had a very small shower cubicle which was quite difficult to squeeze into. A larger person just wouldn't be able to use the shower.
The plumbing incorporated a saniflow system which meant that as soon as a tap was run for a few seconds, or the toilet was flushed, there was a loud sucking noise to dispose of the water. Not ideal for the people in the adjacent room if the facilities were used during the night!
Breakfast was very basic and no beans, mushrooms or black pudding. There wasn't even any marmalade or honey for the toast - just strawberry jam. Perhaps it had been a blessing in disguise that we had eaten elsewhere the previous evening!
Whilst the hotel is nicely located to explore the Dales, it had a bit of a run down feeling and was not good value for money

Room Tip: Room 8 has a very small shower cubicle. Rooms away from the road are quieter

We have just returned from a two night stay at The Wheatsheaf in Carperby. We were greeted warmly and shown to our standard double room at the front of the hotel which was the older part of the building. The bed was very comfy, in the bathroom there is a shower, albeit a small cubicle the shower itself was very efficient. Dinner could be taken either in the dining room or the bar.The food was excellent, ample helpings of piping hot food and quick service. The breakfast was equally as good with a large choice of cereal, juice and full English breakfast with toast. James Heriot spent his honeymoon at The Wheatsheaf maybe in our room! If we are in the area again I would definitely want to stay there again. Excellent value for money. Thank you Wheatsheaf !

Room Tip: As the rooms at the front are in the old part of the building they have sash windows with no double...

This place I had a huge hopes after seeing from outside but I was really disappointed. I was traveling with my husband from Scotland and we stopped there for one night. We booked four postered bed room that was very very dirty... There were cobwebs in the corners of that bed... I'm generally scared of spiders so this wasn't peaceful night of sleep for me. There was no shower in the bathroom. Only bathtub with plastic jug on the side... Also there was carpet in the bathroom which I found bizarre. In the morning I dropped pillow behind headboard and after taking it out I was shocked. whole pillow was covered with dust. I looked in the gap where I took it from and I found dust cobwebs dirty tissues and pens... It was answer to me why I had very strong allegric reaction in the morning (dust allergy). while paying mentioned those things to lady who just shrug her shoulders....
