Thank you very much for your lovely review of The Acorn. We are so pleased that you enjoyed the homemade scotch eggs. Every week our chef trys a new combination, at the moment there are pork chorizo & paprika scotch eggs. Our homemade snacks at the bar selection include spicy caramel popcorn, soy peanuts & a selection of air dried sausages. we hope to welcome you back very soon, best, Alex & Jack

Had booked Sunday Lunch for four people ,

The starters and desserts were good BUT main roast beef dinners only barely warm , we complained and all three main courses were replaced but not the best roast dinner in the area by any means , we did expect better after reading reviews on The Acorn .

Staff were attentive but slow , considering it was very quiet and plenty of empty tables . we did wonder how they manage when they are fully booked for lunch !

My recent visit was to visit a good friend of mine who is now part of the team at the acorn inn. Upon arrival myself and my friend were greeted by the lovely Nat who then showed us around and then to our room (Hope Cove) Amazing room, quiet and such comfortable beds!! We did not get round to eating in the restaurant however we will be back as the menus were mouth watering! We did make breakfast on one occasion and was impressed by the options given.Chamber maid Katie could not do much more for us she whent out her way no matter what we asked her for always had a smile such a lovely girl! Mother Mo in the bar was also very friendly again couldnt do enough for you really felt relaxed there in the warm cosy bar chilling infront of the open fire. Overall a brilliant stay and will deffenatly be back to visit the accorn inn there wonderfull staff, most comfortable hotel beds ever and my georgeous friend Raquel who also completes the team of happy friendly staff!! The Acorn Inn is a 16th century coaching Inn and featured in one of Thomas Hardy's novels so as you can imagine it is all wooden beams and old stone.

The bedroom I stayed in was a standard double and was clean and chintzily done up with a wall mounted TV, small cupboard and double bed. The bathroom was very small but modern and clean. Bottled water and tea/coffee was provided in the room.

I ate breakfast and dinner here. In a nutshell the dinners were fairly hearty and tatsed good, the bread and butter also very nice. I had an Italian dish and the lamb which came with carrots and a small amount of potatoes. Dessert is provided by a local bakery.

There is a cosy pub area, probably the nicest I have been to, and they have a lot of whisky- something the owner/manager was very knowledgable on.

This is not a cheap place but if you like traditional places with history and friendly staff then it is perfect.

Dear Emily
Thank you so much for taking the time to send us a note saying how much you enjoyed your time with us. I am so pleased that you found the huge whisky selection informative, enjoyable and complementary to your excellent food. All of our puddings are in fact made here by our hard working team of great chefs but the most excellent breads are indeed from our village artisan bakers.
We are delighted that you enjoyed your time with us and we hope to see you again soon.
Best wishes
Jack and Alex

No children around for Mothering Sunday, so it was Dad's job to entertain for Sunday lunch. My wife is a wonderful cook so we have to find restaurants that come up to her high standards and the Acorn filled the bill beautifully. The service was relaxed and friendly (although I think they forgot we had arrived for a while!). The menu gave a good selection of well cooked quality food and the surroundings were calming with a bit of a buzz and well spaced tables. A good experience worth repeating.

On Sunday 31st March we held a christening party for our son at the Acorn. Before the party I met with Alex to discuss all my plans and was so thankful for all her help and ideas... Needless to say it all ran smoothly and we had a fantastic time. The function room/skittle alley looked fantastic and was set out perfectly. Alex did a fantastic job and we really appreciated all the hard work from her and the rest of the staff - in the future I'm certain we will use the Acorn Inn for other celebrations. Highly recommended for food and functions !

We recently celebrated my partners birthday at the Acorn. They made us very welcome, the staff were very friendly and could not do enough for us. We stayed in the Silverthorne room with a four poster, lovely new shower room and a window seat. The room was charming and the bed was very comfortable and huge! The food was delicious, we ended up eating in the restaurant for three nights and ventured out in the day to site see. I would highly recommend this hotel, its a lovely village too.
