I visited with my wife to celebrate my birthday with lunch and what a most agreeable way to do it. The place itself is very elegant in all of the public rooms and open log fires add to the ambience. The wine list is extensive to say the least and there are some interesting cocktails and aperitifs. What did surprise me was that not too many local people seem to realise that the lunch menu is so reasonable in price £22 for 2 courses and £25 for 3. It can soon "rack up" of course with wine, but those offered by the glass are more than ideal for a lunch time session especially if you are driving. The head chef has a very good reputation, his breads too are all home made and delicious. We found that the choices on the menu for each course were adequate and my dessert plate carried a happy birthday message. I was also presented with a small box of fine chocolates which was a lovely way to end my extremely well cooked and presented lunch. I must say that throughout, the service was first class. There is no service added to the bill but it makes you feel better knowing that anything you do give is entirely passed on to the staff. There is just 1 shop and 1 pub in the village, which is just through the front door so the shop is worth a visit and you can possibly return to drink or eat at the pub another time.
