“Nice enough place”

The hotel was ok
All the staff were very nice with the exeption of one the owner
As a guest I was informed that I would have to keep out of the bar as there was a private party and drink in the TV lounge
Even though this did not happen it really put me out
The responce for me questioning this was to be closely watched by the bouncer!!
Shame as its a nice hotel

I think it was unfortunate that we stayed at the time of the MUSE concert. The general opinion of the group was that the proprieter of the establishment seemed to be bending over backwards for the Muse people that were staying at the hotel and they rest of us were only there to make up the numbers, especially when one Mr.Chris Moyles turned up.
the staff were generally pleasent with the one exception. The guys on the front door, both
were great on the nights of the concert.
Didn't eat there at night but the breakfast's were good ,served by very pleasent staff.
Generally a decent hotel, clean ect, but I would suggest there may be better places to stay for the money.

The hotel restaurant leaves much to be desired unfortunately, I would not eat in the restaurant again apart from breakfast which anyone could do blindfolded. When I was
there there were no bar snacks apart from crisps. This lets a very good hotel down but
that said the hotel itself is very clean and very friendly with excellent staff and the owners
are very professional, friendly and helpful. If you are looking for bar snacks or dinner there are plenty of excellent restaurants in the town but I found it a bit of a chore to go
hunting for a sandwich at lunchtime when facilities like this should be available.

On a holiday where we stayed at several good hotels in Cornwall, we ended by staying here on the way back to Reading since Dawlish and Teignmouth always looks so pretty when going past by train. Whilst both towns were sweet enough and had some good pubs (and a couple of stinkers), we will need to find some other things to do around there so that we have an excuse to return, as this might just be a personal favourite out of around sixty plus hotels that I have ever stayed in.

Quite close to the station (I would guess within half a mile – not a long walk and not so close as to be noisy), we arrived around half ten in the morning, intending just to drop our luggage off and set out for the day. We stayed for coffee and biscuits as we were told (correctly) that the room would be ready in less than five minutes. How is that for service? The bar prices were fair too.

The furnishings around the hotel are comfortable and fairly stylish, the bedroom cosy and vast with a gorgeous bathroom with powerful shower. The room had a sizable TV with digital TV channels that worked (not as frequent an occurrence as I would hope for!), and immaculately kept, with the decor light and peaceful. There was plentiful storage space too. Breakfast was a sizable offering of a full English (perfect and quickly served), plus a fine continental offering. The dining area is in the cellar, but spacious enough to still feel open to the world. Better still are the bar and a coffee area on the ground floor, along with a fine reading room. Basically, the hotel is gorgeous.

Whilst the town centre obviously could get quite busy, the hotel is a couple of minutes from it so remains blissfully quiet despite the roads outside and so many pubs being close by. I would suggest asking for a sea view room as it is worth the slightly higher cost – beautiful, as the location is between the sea front and bay area, which are impressive.

We suspected the majority of people staying were retired couples, but this would be a great place for young couples – perhaps smaller families too?

Every member of staff we met made me happy - unfailingly charming and polite; as friendly and patient as you could hope for. A great deal of effort has obviously been put in by the friendly owners, and a lot of money and passion for their business made the difference. This hotel is just fantastic, and it was a pleasure to stay there. I would recommend this to everyone I know – and possibly already have done!
