Oh dear.....Ye Olde Jolly Sailor is a perfect example of the deep malaise affecting the good old British Pub.
Despite having acquired a new tenant last year, little appears to have been learned or improved.
The ladies loos are a disgrace and the men's not much better; cracked windows and stained mirrors have not been replaced; the food is basic and good, but lacks imagination, while there is still a severely restricted wine and spirits selection.
There are now additional pumps, but the range of beers available is also still restricted. This, and the current state of repair, is not of course the fault of the tenant, but of the Pub's owners.
Despite its wonderful position close to the Back Beach looking up the River Teign towards distant Dartmoor, this pub continues to be a grave disappointment.
The Jolly sailor, in common with many others, simply must change with the times, or eventually go under.
