“Our second visit here - we love it!”
Reviewed June 9, 2012

Having stayed in apartment 1 last summer, we had hoped to book exactly the same again for half term last week. Unfortunately it was booked, and so we 'reluctantly' took apartment 3. Well - we were certainly not disappointed!

Apartments 1 and 3 have different qualities (1 has spectacular sea views and spacious living area, whereas 3 has more privacy and accommodation is very well organised on two levels) but both apartments are equally fantastic and we will be hard pushed to choose between them next time.

As with last year's holiday we ate at the lovely Beachcomber cafe regularly, and Teignmouth had everything we wanted for an unspoiled, old fashioned seaside holiday with a young family. The quality of these apartments was the icing on the cake, and in fact I am going to make a return booking right now as these apartments get snapped up very quickly, with very good reason.

Cannot recommend highly enough, whether you are travelling as a family, as a couple, or with friends.

This really has the wow factor. Apartments are spacious, light, very clean, well maintained and furnished and finished to a high specification. The kitchen is well equipped and with excellent facilities. We booked all 5 apartments for family and friends who attended our wedding celebrations. Everybody loved it and we had a great time.

I would say the apartments are perfect for families with babies and toddlers (apartments 3 and 4 even have a utility area perfect as baby changing table) as well as for couples and older guests. There is a lift to the apartments, beds are very comfortable, sunbathing on the balcony is great, but also when the weather doesn’t allow walks on the beach you will enjoy staying in with a book on the couch!

Apartment 1 and 2 have sea views, but 3 and 4 have larger terraces and more space for the large table where you can enjoy your breakfast and other meals.
The sofa bed works well for a short break, but do consider apartment 5 if you stay with 6 or more as this will give you much more living space, an extra bed- and bathroom and loads more outside space.

Only suggestion for improvement I can think of would be the bath; unfortunately there is no shower over the bath so you either have to shower in the ensuite or have a bath without rinsing/showering after taking your bath.

Highly recommended. We’ll be back!

We stayed in Apartment 5 from 20th April - 23rd April. There were 7 adults + baby we all had a really good time. The views were lovely and even with awful weather we where able to enjoy watching the activities on the grassed area below. The voucher for breakfast was a lovely touch and the food at the Beachcomber was lovely. The parking was a little awkward so we ended up parking along the seafront (fortunately still free at the time we stayed) I hope when the work is finished this will be easier. The apartment was lovely and clean - would have maybe liked a few more large plates also chopping board.

The only downside is if you have to sleep in the lounge you get woken early by the light streaming through the dome maybe some sort of blind for the summer would be useful and the seperate shower/toilet wetroom appeared not to have any fan system so always felt damp. But we would certainly stay again. There is a small co-op 2 mins away and plenty of other food shops nearby. Lovely Italian restaurant called Fresco and an Indian which is also very nice.

This was our first visit to Riviera Apartments but will not be our last. We stayed in apartment 3 which is truly beautiful, the apartments have been finished to a very high spec with no corners cut. I can not speak highly enough of the quality of the apartment. The whole apartment feels relaxed and spacious. We had a beautiful view which included part of the beach and the quay which is full of little fishing vessels and a hive of activity.

We had no problems with parking and used the garage provided with no issues. We arrived to find an Easter Egg along with a personalised welcome letter which included a breakfast voucher for the following morning. The voucher was for the Beachcomber Cafe which is a one minute walk away and was friendly with great value tasty food. We also visited on a couple of occasions just for a coffee or hot chocolate .

The apartment had its own private section of balcony outside each bedroom but also a huge private balcony with table and chairs and even a couple of sun loungers. There is a really handy coop just over the road and loads of nice bakers and sandwich shops in the main town all a couple mins away (try the cheese straws from Luders). Lots of little pubs and restaurants to explore. We had a few day-trips and found lots to do in the local area, their are brochures provided within the apartments handbook, we were kept busy and never short of places to visit. We had a couple of questions before our visit and Emma was only too glad to help.

The only downside for us was that we had to go home at the end. We have already enquired about availability for next year and may try and sneak another visit this year.

Room Tip: Our apartment was on two floors but if you have mobility issues some of the apartments are all on on...

We stayed in penthouse 4 for 2 nights at New year and loved it. This time we stayed for a week in penthouse 2 and it was just lovely. We were so chilled and the views are just fantastic!

I personally preferred penthouse 2 as I loved the views and also because I have a 3 year old who was fascinated with the stairs in P.4 .....so if you have children under 3 then opt for 1,2 or 5.....We didn't have any issues with the lift, car park or it being too stuffy...I would have liked a blanket on the back of the sofa as I always feel chilly in the evening....but it was warm enough for everyone else.

The children loved the kind gesture of an Easter egg left on th table to welcome us....We liked free complimentary breakfast oved the road at the Beachcomber cafe....really nice food!
We also tried th Indian and the food is really nice. The Coop is 2 mins away so really convenient. We will definately go back again.

When we arrived at the apartments we were very impressed with the space and the views. We have 2 boys under 4 years old and they loved the outdoor space on the balcony, its huge!
There were a few little things that stopped me giving an overall 5 out of 5. The parking - wasn't too bad as we went out of season, but I can imagine that in school holidays its a nightmare. Its being changed to accommodate all 5 apartments Wich will make a big difference.
The internal doors - they are quite heavy and have a mechanism where they close automatically. My 16 month old caught his toes under the bathroom door, so be careful with the little ones!
The only other thing is that it does get very hot in there when the sun is out. We had 14 degrees in march and had to open every door to cool the apartment down. Not sure I would choose to stay in the height of summer with out air con in there.

all in all we had a great time, teignmouth is lovely and kept us busy for 4 days.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent stay, we are so pleased that you experienced such fantastic weather in March.

Our 'Wave' system of heavy blackout curtains will keep much of the sun out of our apartments during the day (if desired) and our largest apartment also benefits from two large electronic domes which create a lovely flow of air through the apartment. Once the doors are open the sea breeze is also an added bonus!

I am sorry your son hurt his toes on the bathroom door, we do provide door stops and hooks for our doors for the comfort of our guests.

Thank you for your patience during our car park works. The work is almost complete and will enhance the experience for all our guests.

We hope to welcome you back to Riviera Apartments again in the future.
