“Cycling with the family in Grizedale Forest”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2013

The boys were now big enough to go on bike rides with us so we decided to buy a bike rack and head up to Grizedale Forest, where I'd been before but never stayed. We didn't fancy camping so looked for a nice B&B and some creature comforts. Most of the hotels in the area wouldn't allow the children (and I don't blame them - little rascals! ;-) But Richard and Deborah were more than happy to accommodate us. Their cooking was hearty and spot on. With lots of choice. And the little touches like the honesty box in the lounge to take care of the evenings beverages by the fireside made our stay even more relaxing. If you're looking for somewhere to go walking, hill running or cycling, in beautiful surroundings, with a place like home to come back to at the end of the day, I'd recommend Grizedale Lodge. A gem in a beautiful part of Cumbria. They really know how to make you feel welcome.

Room Tip: Room 1 is very nice. With its four-poster and views out across two sides on the top floor. Richard p...

Thank you for your review. I am glad the boys had the opportunity to enjoy the forest tracks and that you wanted a change from camping! Room 1 is the largest room and can hold 3 X Z beds for under 12's and this also means it is an ideal room for longer stays with its large sofa and stunning views into the forest. I hope you are able to visit at sometime in the future. All the best Richard

We have just returned from our second short break at Grizedale Lodge and enjoyed it every bit as much as the last time. Richard made every effort to ensure we were comfortable and the breakfasts were as beautiful as ever. We were brought tea and coffee on arrival (for which there was no charge) and he even found some tasty bits each morning to tempt our elderly dog to eat!
Watching the birds whilst eating breakfast is delightful. The lounge, with its log burning stove, is a lovely place to relax and there is an honesty bar if you fancy a glass of wine. Hawkeshead is only a couple of miles down the road and has several good cafes and pubs. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Each of the rooms is individual but they are all lovely.

This was the second time we have stayed at Grizedale Lodge with Richard and Deb and loved it just as much as the first. We stayed in the recently refurbished room 1 which was magnificent, plenty of room for us and our 16 month old son and his travel cot. He loved exploring the place and especially loved the homemade bread every morning. We couldn’t ask for a nicer place to stay and will definitely be back

We have just come back from a 3 night stay at Grizedale Lodge. We both thought that the cosyness, attention to detail and cleanliness were second to none. The choice of breakfast options was excellent, from fresh fruit to home made bread, porridge, yoghurt etc etc. The breakfast portions were perfect; just right and non- greasy.
It's a fantastic base for active days out in the woods with a great variety of trails ( walking/ mountain biking) and when your kit gets wet just ask to have it put in the drying room; dry in no time!
All in all a great place to stay if you are looking for charm and a friendly atmosphere.
We will definitely try to stay here again and highly recommend.

I stayed here for six nights recently, and really didn't want to leave! I felt welcome from the moment I walked in the door. Both Richard and Deb bend over backwards to make everything perfect. Breakfast was excellent -- whisk(e)y porridge, full cooked breakfast, home-made bread and jams / marmalades, what more could a person want? And birds eating at the feeders outdoors if entertainment is needed, too.

The lodge is perfectly sited for walking (at least three public footpaths within a short walk), all the activities in Grizedale Forest, or having a peaceful stay in the very quiet Lake District countryside.

I will definitely be staying here again the next time I visit the area!

Thank you for your review, and I am pleased you enjoyed your stay so much. Grizedale Lodge is ideally located to explore the forest from the front door, and as some guests have commented they park the car and never use it doing their stay here! I look forward to seeing you again sometime. All the best Richard.

I spent only one night at Grizedale in July with friends and can highly recommend it. The lounge with comfy sofas, games, magazines and a chance to socialise with other guests is a real bonus. The rooms are clean, comfortable and individual (sneaked a look into two or three of them). A couple of minutes away is the Go Ape trail - great fun. The hosts, Richard and Debs couldn't be more welcoming or accommodating - nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast is brilliant and will set you up well for a day of walking the nearby hills. We will return!

Grizedale Lodge is a great place to stay with wonderful hosts and great food. Location is superb to explore the heart of the Lakes and you will not be disappointed. Dogs are permitted to stay and the place has a nice homely feel so thoroughly recommended all round
