Our family of 5 (kids 8 and under) stayed here for 2 nights in June. It was the second time we'd stayed at Grizedale lodge. On both occasions we found the owners very welcoming and friendly. The room which accommodated all of us comfortably was fantastic with it's character and sympathetic decor. We took advantage of the evening meal on offer (as well as the tasty breakfasts) as this was a much more relaxing option than taking our young family out. The menu provided a good selection and decent value as well as being very nice. The location is ideal for exploring Grizedale forest, a nature reserve with a variety of walks and Go Ape, and is a lovely tranquil spot. Slightly off the beaten track for the more touristy attractions but still within easy reach by car. Would certainly recommend to couples and families who are looking for a peaceful retreat.

Thank you for your review. We are fortunate in having a large double room that can accommodate 3 'Z' beds (for children up to 12 years old) as well as a large sofa and double bed, ideal for families of 5 as you say. The room is also ideal for guests who stay for a longer break, as there is plenty of room to spread out! I hope you are able to visit again sometime. All the best Richard

A fantastic base for a beautiful setting. Couldn't have asked for more from Richard and Deborah who made our stay so enjoyable. The accommodation was first class and the food was excellent. We will be back! Thank you, Graham and Anne.

this was our 3rd visit but our first family holiday at the lodge spending a wonderful 7 nights, Richard was a true gent getting straight to the pleasantries and making us feel at home which we did. our room (room 1) was amazing and beautifully finished (Debbie you have definitely got flare).
our stay consisted of a full activity week including, pony treking at spoon farm (highly recommend) gorge walking, raft building & abseiling arranged by joint activities (great experience) skydiving (personal challenge for charity). tree top climbing, full day mountain bike riding in grizedale forest, walking to wray castle & back (12miles). all in all great holiday and kids aged 9, & 12 will do it again!!
Richard really looks after the practical aspects example sorting out our wet clothes, bikes, etc Debbie looked after our stomach's with great food she prepares.
will be definitely returning as this is my favourite place in the lake district and after 13 years of visiting this place i have stayed in some places but the last 3 years i have stayed here, and will continue it has the full package.

Room Tip: all rooms are fantastic!!

Thank you for your review. What can I say? It is a pleasure to have you to stay - and you certainly made the most of all the local activities, really well done on your charity skydive, Debs and I were happy to support you - but from the ground! It was great that your family all enjoyed their stay and I look forward to seeing you again very soon. All the best Richard

Richard and Deborah were excellent hosts, nothing was too much bother and they made us feel very much at home, with little extras at no extra cost. We were greeted with tea, coffee and cake on on the verandah on our arrival. The rooms were very comfortable and well furnished in an attractive manner. All the comforts of home were on hand and if not Richard tried to provide them. Initially I thought it a bit far out but the peace and quiet was great and only two miles either way from a local pub for food and drink though Deborah provided an evening meal on request at not a great extra cost. All in all a great place to stay with excellent hosts and definitely worthy of praise and a return visit.

Thank you for your review. Our aim is to provide a 'homely' feel to the lodge, and create somewhere you want to return! The location is ideal to get peace and quiet, but is still only 8 miles from Ambleside - which makes makes it a good base to explore any of the areas within the Lake District. I hope to see you again soon. All the best Richard

Returning after almost 20 years and it was as lovely as ever, our hosts were very welcoming and thoughtful, we stayed in the same four poster room as we did before and it was just as lovely.
The food was excellent and the service was perfect.

Beautiful location, peaceful and secluded perfect for winding down, thank you to our wonderful hosts Richard and Deb for their attention to detail.

Room Tip: The four poster room comes highly reccomended

One of the few times when the hotel was even more fabulous than it looked on the website! Exceeded expectations; Richard and Deb are great hosts (breakfast was lovely every morning..) peace and quiet, gorgeous views and a perfect location for getting away from it all! Definitely recommend to all our family and friends. Samantha and Glenn

A charming B&B in the middle of Grizedale Forest. Away from the hustle and bustle but helpfully close to Ambleside, Hawkshead, and with easy access to a plethora of really good dining places. This was a great setting to let all your cares slip away. Richard and Deb are not just impeccable hosts but they are also charming, friendly and helpful. We arrived during the UK's completely unnatural blisteringly hot summer and asked for a fan in the room (a complete rarity in the Lake District!). However within 30 minutes, Richard had gone hunting in the attic, found a fan, cleaned it up and delivered it to the room. That is an example of what you will find at this B&B. There was nothing more serene than sitting on the deck with the forest around you watching the birds and breathing in fresh mountain air. The breakfasts are great as well. A definite "find" in the Lake District.
