Very good surroundings and atmosphere, slightly pretentious crowd but overall pleasant and relaxing.

Food was creative and very tasty, a mix of wholesome ingredient and interesting flavours that easily rivals many top restaurants in London.

We had the scallops for starters which was possibly the best we have had anywhere, probably best in Cornwall. For mains we had fillet steaks and a lamb duo, both of which were simply great, very fresh meat and great presentation yet good value for money.

Recommended.

Kota – Porthleven

This restaurant is a real challenge to Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant in Padstow in terms of the quality and imagination inserted into its menu. On the night we visited mis week in late october, we enjoyed oysters, sea bass with an exceptional accompanying sauce and John Dory – an exceptional dinning experience – well worth the travel.

The food was fabulous, the best we've eaten, really. Not too pricey, in fact excellent value for money. Good, friendly service. This has got to be one of the best restaurants in the UK. There, that's saying something. We're just customers, no allegiance to this restaurant. I'm very quick to criticise if I feel I haven't got what I paid for, but not in this case.

We've just returned from having a wonderful meal at Kota - which we had chosen after reading about Jude (owner/chef) and his wife in the Telegraph. We were down in Cornwall during our honeymoon and were looking for something special - and we found that at Kota. The food was delicious - we both had seafood for our first two courses. We both had scallops which were delicious and then had Sea Bass and John Dory. Both our main meals were superb with really exciting and unusual flavours. By sheer coincidence Jude and his wife ended up dining next to us. We took the opportunity to talk to them and they were both lovely people - very friendly, genuine and modest people. We think they well deserve lots of continued success.
