Stayed in a superior room with a charming bay window (but not all superior rooms have a bay window). Room facilities were good - towels were nice, there were extra pillows and bedding, and there was a coffee machine. Seems like someone had actually thought about what travellers what. However, some in the party thought the shampoo and soap not very great.
Breakfast was quite good. Some decent cereal (eg muesli) and some fruit, including half grapefruits. Also there were fish alternatives to the usual fry-up.
Beer very good. Didn't try the evening food - seemed like there was some decent stuff as well as usual burger and chips.
Noise from the pub not a problem at all as the pub assiduously closes the lounge under the rooms at 11 or before. Bed very comfortable and a very good night's kip.
Would stay here again (and there is a very good fish restaurant - Kota - 30 seconds walk away)

I stayed at this flower-bedecked, very prettily-situated inn for 2 nights on a touring break, along with my parents who are in their 80's. It suited our needs fine, and we especially liked the harbour-view front bedrooms with their 'poop-deck' windows, perfect for my less-active mum to sit and watch the world go by in comfort, whilst my dad and I walked out to the harbour mouth. As long as you go on the understanding that this is basically a pub, and not a boutique hotel, you'll be fine. Yes, the room decor is a bit tired and the standard of housekeeping isn't always perfect, but there are also unexpected bonuses - like the three types of loose tea (breakfast, Earl Grey and peppermint) in caddies in the bedrooms, and free parking literally outside the front door. We had a great welcome from all the staff with whom we came into contact, and service was pretty efficient even when the bar & restaurant was heaving. By design, we ate there on one night only - the fare was perfectly acceptable standard pub grub, if not hugely exciting. Breakfast was commendable and plentiful, including the option of a generous plate of smoked salmon with the scrambled egg. Loved the Dorset brand muesli cereal choices to complement the Kellogg's (but not the non-availability of orange juice on our first morning). Room pricing is probably slightly high for the standards currently on offer. I'd suggest the solution for management is to invest a little in the infrastructure and attention to detail, so as to justify, rather than to cut rates - this place has stacks of potential. Definitely worth a try if you are in the area.

We have stayed at this hotel 3 times now. This time we stayed in room 3 overlooking the harbour. There is a great view from this room but what a pity the window was screwed shut because it was broken and that was an easier option to mending it. The bathroom, although clean, was rather tired and could really do with updating. Wobbly loo seats are unnecessary as is the orange tell tale mould on the shower curtain and tiles. The breakfasts are nicely cooked and usually served by the very cheerful Lizzie. Excellent tea and coffee provided in the room. Filter coffee and proper tea leaves. Lumpy bed.

We never eat here in the evening - we just do not fancy it. There was a change of management whilst we were there. It would be nice to see this place given a real injection of cash to bring it up to standard.

We didn't stay here, we just ate here. And ok, I know I should have complained at the time but I was on holiday and didn't want the hassle. However, I can warn people now I'm back. Don't eat here!

We had baked potatoes, one with prawns, one with tuna mayonnaise. There was no mayonnaise. My husband had to add his own from a bottle on the table. The prawns were watery and completely tasteless.

But the potatoes were the worst part. I have NEVER seen or eaten potatoes like them. Nor do I want to again.
The insides of potatoes are white, right? Not at the Harbour Inn. They're brown there. Yep, brown. And the papery skins weren't attached to the potatoes at all. They fell off.
We've given it a lot of thought and we think they were actually cold pre-boiled potatoes that had been briefly stuck in an oven before serving. Or even just in a microwave.

We were luckier with the service than previous posters. All the ladies we dealt with were very friendly and helpful. But we found it to be just as dirty as previously stated.

We only ate here because we wanted something more substantial than the ice cream parlour offered. I would go hungry before eating at the Harbour Inn again.
