“Good value for money”

Went there (not the first time over the years) for an evening meal. The selections was reasonably good, the prices fair and the quality of the product very good.

“Friendly , good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2013

We were staying in a hotel a short distance away and decided to eat in there after looking at an uninspiring menu at another pub , what a gem of a find , the landlord and staff and locals were really friendly and the food was excellent , we then joined the locals with the "quiz night" and what a laugh we had , an excellent good old local pub at the top of the hill , keep up the good work

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2013 via mobile

We visited here whilst on holiday after a recommendation. It's set on a hill overlooking the harbour, lovely views if you can get one of the limited seats outside or by window.
I liked the old style decor and the fairy lights were a nice touch.
My started was lovely but I couldn't decide on a main. Being a vegetarian there's not always much choice so it was nice to have a few options. The waitress recommended the curry, saying it had a real kick. So I was very dissatisfied to find it had no flavour and was quite mushy. When I said this to the waitress she said oh it's normally really spicy. We again mentioned this to the bar when paying and they said they'd tell the chef but were not concerned that we were unhappy. Nt great customer service!

I am so sorry you felt we didn't handle your comments about the curry well. I am not sure of the circumstances but our normal policy is to either replace the dish with an alternative or if the customer declines we give a refund.
We always pass comments on to the chefs as they are as concerned as we are that everyone should have the best dining experience.
I hope you will try us again as you can see from our comments your experience is not the norm.

“Proper pub”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

My family of 3 has eaten several times times in each of the last three years and we have never been disappointed with the friendly atmosphere and the food. The combination of a mixed grill and and several pints of proper Cornish beer is fantastic. We even saw some dolphins in the bay from the terrace outside this August.

“A gem in Porthleven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2013

We have visited this pub, whilst on holiday, for the last five years. Each year we have at least three meals there. This year we dined there on the 18th, 24th & 28th August. The pub has a mixture of both locals and holiday makers. The locals and the staff make you feel welcome as soon as you walk through the door. The atmosphere is great, the bar area is always full creating a real buzz. The pub is family run and they are always on hand either pulling pints, serving food or mixing with the customers. The other bar staff and waitress's have been there for years and are all extremely friendly and helpful and always make you feel welcome.

What can I say about the food it is absolutely fab. In all the time we have been going to The Atlantic we have never had a bad meal or one that is just ok. The children's menu is really good and great value for money. This year our kids fancied gammon which isn't on the children's menu. This wasn't an issue as a waitress kindly agreed to split an adults gammon between our two kids. On another occasion they did scampi for my son which again wasn't on the children's menu. Over the years we have tried most on the menu and never been disappointed. This year during our visits we had homemade beef burger, steak and Cajun chicken from the specials board all were superb and washed down with Thatchers Gold cider.

If visiting Porthleven a visit to this pub is a must, it is a real gem in a lovely coastal village.

Thank you all very much for lovely comments. Its lovely to have our "holiday" regulars and in a lot of instances see the children growing up.
I hope we will see you next year too!
