Came here on a Sunday, the weather was good so we wanted to sit outside. The garden area is lovely to sit in although we couldn't find the way into the pub to order, bit special but the doors all blended in! Friendly staff, quick service and gorgeous food if not a bit limited for choice... Saying that the fish and chips and home made tartar sauce I ate were faultless; and my partner really enjoyed his roast lamb.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- 'As of the 18th July 2012, the George and Dragon Hotel, West Wycombe is under new management. In the very near future we will be sympathetically refurbishing all of the rooms in the hotel ensuring that none of the unique original character is lost. We have already made a lot of positive improvements since the takeover including a full thorough deep clean of all the rooms. Shortly we will be developing the downstairs to include a 40+ cover restaurant whilst keeping the rustic charm of the original bar. As the rooms develop we will post new photos to keep you informed. We hope to see you soon.' Through a cobbled archway on West Wycombe High Street, you come to the entrance of a coaching inn built in the early 18th century. When you walk in, it feels quite natural that people have been doing this for almost three centuries. Generations of traders, travellers, lovers and visitors have left traces of their presence on the building and its atmosphere, not least of whom is Sukie, the beautiful social climber whose ghost is said to haunt the building. The attentive service you receive from our staff, however, leaves you in no doubt that you are in the present now. Whether you hope for quick service for a business lunch or a more relaxed pace for dinner with friends, you will not be disappointed. On a fine day, you can sit in our large garden. At the George and Dragon, you will find your bedroom both comfortable and interesting. Two of the rooms have four-poster beds and all of them have the uneven floorboards and quirky angles that come with age. One room straddles the archway into the inn's courtyard and another gives a view over the old roofs and chimneys of West Wycombe. Recent concessions to modern living include en-suite bathrooms, tea and coffee making facilities and Freeview TV. We have three full-time chefs who create an intriguing menu which is English at heart including local game, English cheeses, traditional favourites and lamb from the local estate. Some menu items and daily specials will represent the chefs' selection from the rest of the world and may include dishes from the Mediterranean and the Far East. As you would expect from an establishment where good dining is such a high priority, we also have a choice of well kept real ales, and an ever-developing wine list. ... more less
